Day 14 - Typically the day we are leaving is the best weather-wise by far! Still, we’ve had a great time and it’s always lovely and relaxing at the beach house. Myself (Sarah), Anna and Daph went for the final morning walk on the peninsula and this morning we even snuck a closer look at some of the properties available! Anna has identified several ‘favourite’ houses down here, sadly people seem to live in them so we can’t get a really good look but we do have a good clamber around one which isn’t occupied! It’s pretty big and is on multi levels with a balcony complete with sea view and a fairly large price tag we think! Onward we go with the walk, swinging our arms and doing the sort of exercise you should do to increase a ladies upper area!! And so to the conversation about ‘National Geographic’ breasts!! Needless to say we’re now falling about laughing like 3 schoolies and the walking slows down considerably!! One more distraction on the route home, another of Anna’s favourite houses and it looks deserted. Sarah checks the slightly open garage door (whilst pretending to do press ups on the drive!) only
to spot a car wheel … run, run!! Without getting arrested for being peeping toms we make it back to the house in time for the big clear up!
Unfortunately when Grant did the curries on Friday night we had a bit of a rice explosion and although we immediately hoovered up we’re still finding rice everywhere it shouldn’t be! Everyone has their jobs, Darryl is clearing and cleaning, Daph is washing, Anna is doing dunnies (!), Sarah is hoovering, Grant is organising and the girls, with Henry, are playing! We’re packed up and ready to leave by 11am which is pretty good going. We’ve got a big Mothers Day gig at home this evening so we need to get back in good time to make sure everything is just right before people start to arrive.
The journey back takes an hour and a half but we’ve got Daph and the girls with us so it’s not a quiet one! The girls have their DS’s with them and we do laugh when they're playing the Nintendo Dogs game “Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down” whispers Charlotte as she tries to get her
Glad we've got a car!
This guy was just coming into Rye when we were leaving! virtual pups to obey without much luck as we constantly shout “Stand up, roll over, run around” which drives her mad!! After several more attempts at the “Sit down” command she falls asleep!! Amy however is wide awake and keeping Daph very entertained in the back! Darryl is driving which leaves me (Sarah) nodding in the passenger seat, I do worry that much of Australia will pass me by if I don’t get my arse in the driving seat!! I just can’t stay awake and with no map reading, we have Tom Tom, it’s really hard!! I’m sure I will be fine when the scenery is less city and more ‘roo’!
Back safely we drop Daph off in Camberwell, we’ll see her later as she’s coming round for Mothers Day and she’s bringing home made chocolate cake - yummo!
A bit more cleaning takes place at Harrison Street, we buy roses, put on the flash new CD, lay the table and then shop for the food. Grant wants to cook Veal steaks but he’s out of luck with finding any so we’re having Mussel Pasta for entre followed by Veal Schnitzel, Chicken Schnitzel and Carbonara with garlic bread!
Grant cooks up some amazing food but this time we did manage to help with the preparation! For example, Darryl ‘made’ the garlic bread and I cut the bacon and ham for the Carbonara! We also ‘created’ the sauce for the mussel pasta … under strict supervision of course as there is a reputation to uphold!
Then it’s time to bath Henry! That’s great fun for us and he seems to enjoy it, not sure about the blow dry afterwards but once he’s let loose he prances around like a rock star as he knows he’s gorgeous!!
The guests arrive, Joan a friend of the family, Cathy & Jeff, Paula, Corey & Luke with Corey’s Mum Pat, Daph & Bert, Helen & Bill (with Lasagne!) and new dad James with 2 year old daughter Peppa. It’s a great evening and lovely to see everyone. The kids have so much fun together, little Peppa holds her own with Luke, Amy and Charlotte! James tells us that his newest edition could well be called Zali which is polish for Sara. The wine flows, the feast is devoured and the puddings are unleashed! Paula has brought home-made baked cheesecake, friands (with blueberries)
and something else which was delicious but I can’t remember what it was!!! What with Daph’s chocolate cake we’re going to be stuffed silly and then Cathy produces gateaux! Help!! We chat to Cathy & Jeff about the forthcoming wedding, very exciting, plus Cathy shows us a sneak preview of the wedding cake - gorgeous! They’re spending part of their honeymoon in the Intercontinental Burswood at Perth! We chuckle because we’ve stayed there, on the ‘special floor’, ourselves! We know they’re in for a treat but advise them not to use a bath bomb in the room’s spa bath! It’s lovely catching up with Paula and Corey. Luke is growing up now but still at a lovely age, 5, and so much fun. Bill chats about the beach house and the possibility of taking us sailing! Yippee, it might be Friday but we’ll wait and see what the forecast is like.
Everyone leaves having had a great time and we sink into bed once we’ve broken the back of the clear up! Wouldn’t want to crawl out of bed to face that in the morning!!!
Night Night!
