"It'll be cold" they said. "It's their bloody winter!" said others. "You are an idiot" said one. "I hate you" - he didn't really say that. As we walked out of Melbourne airport in flip flops and board shorts we began to realise that people had been trying to tell us something. What, we didn't know, but we found out when we were told it was the coldest day in Melbourne in years. We spent the flight giggling at stuff the Aussie people were saying, to be honest we haven't stopped. We heard a lady actually use the word "streuth." They're easy to make fun of but we are soon realising their country, and particularly Melbourne, is better than ours. We met up with our good pals Phil, Neil, Gareth and his Mrs. Colette. We left Woodside Beach, thinking we'd continue west along the coast to Melbourne, stopping first at Phillip Island to see the penguins. However, a wind came up and we had quite a buffetting, so instead went to Leongatha and booked into the caravan park to spend the rest of the day, out of the wind. On hearing that cooler weather with some rain was predicted for the next few days down south and for Melbourne, we changed our plans and today headed north. Being warm and in sunshine - that's what it's all about (or is that the hokey pokey?). We saw the penguins on Phillip Island a few years ago .. we'll be back another day to see them again.
