Not like it looks in Point Break, also no waves! OK so last time I had trouble uploading pictures so theres a load of them this time! As long as they upload, otherwise they'll be shit loads next time...
Since being in Australia I’ve heard many different opinions about Adelaide, everything from being ‘the best city in Australia’ to ‘full of weirdo’s, people go missing there’. I’ve been told its tiny and nothing is there. Maybe its a bit like when someone tells you a film is terrible and when you go see it you’re expecting it to be so bad that it seems OK, or when someone tells you a film is good and it can never live up to your expectations so you think its terrible but I really liked Adelaide. Yeah it’s small and maybe if I was there for a long period of time I might have got bored but from my experiences it was a great city. The University is omnipresent and with all the students walking around the city centre it gives the whole place a young, vibrant feel. The whole CBD is surrounded by park land giving it an open feel and there are plenty of small art galleries as well as the
really nice South Australia Gallery and Museum, one of the smaller galleries has a working glass blowing area which you can view from above. There seems to be, even though I didn’t manage to head out to any, a really good live music scene and a great pub scene there as well. I would have loved to stay in Adelaide for longer but, and heres the one downside I can see to Adelaide, theres no or very little work! So my advice would be come and enjoy Adelaide, you really get the feeling that this could be a great city even though they have very little confidence in themselves and there always seems to be a festival on or about to start. If you do go don’t miss the botanical gardens which are, as always, fantastic.
Are you wondering what the guns thing is about? As I walked round the city one advert caught my attention. $80 Trevs Special fire a 9mm, .45 cal automatic, .357 Mag, .44 Mag. Now I don’t really have the cash to go spunking it on stuff like this but then when am I ever going to get to fire guns? Couldn’t resist it.
So me and another lad from the hostel went down. I don’t care who you are when you walk into a firing range with four massive guns and a load of bullets laid out in front of you the adrenaline starts to pump. You start with the 9mm, the standard gun you see in most hollywood films, it’s nervewracking firing a gun, for one the shock of the severity of the kick from these things you really feel it and also you really get the realisation of the damage these things can do. There were four of us on the range and more at a different range and even with the ear muffs on its so loud you jump everytime someone fires. My aim was rubbish by the way, I hit the target pretty much every time but it’d be a slow painfull death if I was shooting at you. I also suddenly started to get really nervous about the people round me, they could quite easily go crazy and start shooting! Next up was the .45 which is to be honest very similar to the 9mm but still fun to shoot. Then onto the .357 Magnums, a revolver. Shit
Great Ocean Road
Twisty roads, fun on a bike. those things kick, you really have to hold on to them, I tried a normal one and then the snub nose version like you see in the movies with the smaller barrel which is damn near impossible to aim. Then, then the Dirty Harry comes out, the .44 magnum and hell is that thing big and heavy, everytime you fire your heart is in your mouth, the flash off the thing is huge. It definately feels like you would do someone a huge amount of damage with that thing. Whatever you think about guns if you have the chance to do this, do it it’s great fun and you’ll be on a high for a good hour after. You’ll also never look at guns or action movies in the same way. If you come away from it with anything other than a very healthy respect for the danger of firearms then your a nutjob, you have been warned!
