Here is a belated South Australia entry. We didn't realize how many pictures we'd taken here, so hopefully they will add to the rather meager text I am typing in. So - we crossed the border after completing The Great Ocean Road and stayed over at the very beautiful but not so peaceful Mount Gambier. Another great example of how lush the SA landscape is and how much it differs, which in turn, translates to show how huge the state is. A landscape equation if you will.

This whopper of a jetty sounded so cool in the lonely planet. Dolphins are often ready to greet you when you take a stroll up it and it's contruction is "Simply Astounding". In reality however it was scalding hot sunshine, the tide was out and that made the whole place stink, not a dolphin to be seen either. huff!

The train tracks and the road run alongside each other as you drive on up into the red centre.

Before we got officially into the outback I became rather paranoid that we would be defeated by the desolation we were to encounter. I was manic about quantities of water and petrol and having to endure some kind of Mad Max situation. Thom ended up handling all this stuff whilst I feverishly took pictures of lush countryside and chattered nervously.

As well as stopping the roaming cattle all over the outback, these grids work very well at waking you up a bit when you drive over them on roads which seem to replay the same landscape for hours on end.
