Not a destination on everybodies itinery. It was planned to be a 5 day pit stop enroute to Ayers Rock but was elongated into 2 months!!!!...
All the guide books say that you should see everything in Australia before coming here as you wont want to leave, i just thought that was a devious marketing scheme aimed at squeezing more $ out of tight arse backpackers! but i was pleasently surprised to see that their write-up was spot on!
This Hostel is slap-bang in the middle of nowhere, and is like an oasis!. Where every night is a saturday night. It has tree houses, hammocks a swimming pool, outdoor bbq area for the saturday night bbq's and free wine!, a gym, sauna, tennis and beach volleyball court, football pitch, Tv/Video Lounge, Games room for the alcoholics, free internet and the weather is great and the nourishing atmosphere is rich and unique, but what makes it so difficult to leave is not the facilities but the people you meet and friends you make. I met some fantastic people here (Berri 6 you know who you are) and loved my 2 months living here. Its does'nt really cost much to stay
either and if you want to, you can either plonk your arse down on a hammock and laze the day away listening to the sounds played on the grounds or you can earn your keep by working in the many surrounding vineyards picking whatever fruit is in season!. I had the pleasure of picking grapes (when i could dragged out of bed usually at 5am!) and i would have loved it if it were'nt for those F'ing flies! Anyone who has been to Australia will agree that Australian flies are just evil & darn right nasty. They drive you nuts. They are the only life form on earth i have felt serene pleasure killing (Not that i've killed anything else). Anyway Berri Backpackers is a great place to stay (wiggo the owner has created probably the best hostel in Oz and even has a houseboat with sauna, speedboat for wake boarding and a big kitchen which he uses to take out his backpackers out on a weekend trip along the murray river every fortnight) and have a unique experience in South Australia, i hightly recommend it. I found it extremely hard to leave, infact i had about 3 leaving parties,
