Dinner last night was with another volunteer plus a few other nomads who are camped at the Recreation Reserve. It was a rowdy table, lots of conversations and laughter as we all sat down to enjoy a very tasty schnitzel meal - we can appreciate why the locals were out in force! We were picked up by the courtesy bus so everyone could enjoy a wine or two with their meal and then brought back to the camp ground but not before the Pub Raffle was drawn. $2 a ticket would get you in the draw and I was the “lucky” winner of a 6-pack of beer ……. Shame it wasn’t a bottle of sav.blanc, but there you go!

We did a little detour via the grain Silos on the way home and everyone jumped off the bus to take a photo of the illuminated artwork.

Day 2 of our Volunteer work. Red is our “boss” at the Kimba Museum – his bushy red beard is as big as his character. We were given a heads up by a member of staff down at the Tourist Information Centre that Red is quite gregarious and loves a good chat – in fact, it was suggested that we should allow 3/4hr just to say hello.

Red is quite the man about town – not only is he the President of the Kimba & Gawler Ranges Historical Society but he drives the pub courtesy bus as well as one of the school buses, he keeps the amenities here at the Rec Reserve well serviced and he runs the Hot Doughnut van for the football and netball clubs when they are playing at home – which they are doing this coming Saturday.

We have “officially” completed our hours at the Museum – continuation of typing for me and John was finally able to bring a sparkle back to the brass kerosene stove which is now back on display – but we think we will pop in for an hour or so tomorrow morning before we go exploring the surrounding area again. We quite enjoyed the experience.

The weather is still amazing – 21oC today and predicted again for tomorrow – we have been so lucky; however the forecast for the weekend is not looking as favourable. Might have to rug up, wander across to the football and netball and enjoy one of Red’s hot doughnuts.
