Adelaide - Barmera (wet) - Flinders Ranges (dry) Adelaide was not on our original plan, but it was nice to catch up with family with an unplanned visit. It was also good to get out of the wind and cold for a couple of days - and it provided an opportunity for me to recuperate and plan for the next part of our journey.
Then it was back on the road, going first to Barmera. We had been to this riverland town during a previous trip, and I thought it would be nice to spend a couple more days relaxing by the beautiful Lake Bonnie. Hopefully the weather behaves...
We had one really nice sunny day and was able to explore the town and the countryside around Lake Bonnie. Rain was predicted for the following day, in pretty much every direction, so we decided to stay for an extra night and wait out the storm. This meant we had another day of relaxation - which was nice to have anyway. This time the weather forecast was correct and after an overcast morning it rained all afternoon. The caravan park has a nice big shed as the camp kitchen
so we spent most of the afternoon there - then went for dinner at the local club. The rain stopped that night and the next day dawned cloud free and sunny (if still a bit chilly).
We headed off to the Flinders Ranges and arrived early afternoon. We have been to Wilpena Pound before too, but planned to do some of the walks that we previously haven't done. We weren't very impressed with the check-in process and the staff were not very welcoming - things have changed since we were here last. We found a spot to camp and setup, then went to get information about the walks. Again the staff were less than helpful and I ended up looking up the Flinders Ranges website for the information I wanted - good thing we had phone reception. We decided to tackle one of the difficult hikes the next day. We originally planned to stay a few days, but the whole experience was not good (and the amenities so grotty I was worried about catching something) so only stayed the two nights, ie one full day to do the hard walk.
We have been very indecisive about our route

Lunch stop on the way to Barmera from here - Kevin is a bit concerned about the suspension on the camper being able to cope with the SA dirt roads (Strezleki/Birdsville tracks) so we will now be heading south instead, for now. We will return to Cameron Corner once he has had a chance to check and clean the suspension...
