Lazy Sod!!
Apparently I'm like Koalas, cute, cuddly and sit around doing sod all for 21 hours of the day, eat the rest!! Arrived in Adelaide from my tour down from Alice Springs. First few days I literally spent sleeping off the previous 5 day tour. Was so tired, that all I could muster up was the strength to do my washing (everything was orange from the rocks) and watch the Arsenal match at 4am. Before I knew it 2 nights had passed and it was time for my second tour, of Kangaroo Island and Adelaide. The first day I was picked up at 10am and we toured the city of Adelaide, a very attractive city with parks all around it which really adds to the attraction. We drove up to Mount Lofty, a vantage point from which to view the city. Then it was on to kangaroo Island. A 1 hour ferry ride and we arrived just before dark. No one realy drives on Kangaroo Island in the dark as it is full of mad kangaroos and wallabies who just dart in front of the vehicle and if hit, the bus and the animal would be messed up.
First night we hiked along the beach, powder white sand for 5km, I have calfs of steel now from all this walking. We slept
Endless Road
Cool looking road! in a really cool eco lodge, where everything is solar powered, you drink rain water and poo is used to compost the plants etc. Judging by the smells from my arse, I wouldn't wanna eat the veg they grow there in the future! Nice early start the next day and we toured the island. The island itself is basically one big nature reserve, which has so many animals its unbelieveable. It is on the south coast of Aus so there is literally nothing between you and Antartica, so the wind hits 100 mph and it can be freezing. It is also the only place in Australia with seals and we saw these on seal bay, thousands of the little fellas. How they named the place I'll never know? Then we proceeded along to see various other animals including, Koalas, Wallabies, Kangaroos, Pelicans and so many others. The scaries point was when leaving Finders Nature reserve I heard a scream in the van from behind me to see a 4 inch Huntsman spider (one of the dealy ones) crawl out of our Air Conditioning unit an along the roof of the van. Needless to say, I was first one out of
the van, I think I even crawled over an old couple to get out, I shit my self! Luckily no one was bitten and he sodded off, hopefully to never be seen again.
Second night under the stars by an old farm, it was the home to hundreds of Wallabies and nothing is quite like waking up at 4am to feel wallabies on your blanket sniffing you and tring to eat anything that smells like food. Made me glad i had Kangaroo stir fry on my first night on the tour, very nice too, wake me up how dare they!
Next day was our last day, with loads more sightseeing moments and even a trip to 'little sahara' and some sand surfing which was great fun. I was the only one to get all the way to the bottom on my feet without falling over. It was a mini blizzard of sand though and very cold too. That night back to Adelaide where idiot here didn't book any accomodation and with U2 in concert that night, most places had already sold out so I was crawling the streets loking for somewhere. Luckily my mate Paul who I did
Kangaroos Loved me!!
I want one as a pet!! the Alice trip with sorted me out a bed in a real shithole, but i didn't py so thats all good. We went out to town and watched a U2 tribute band in PJ O'Briens (Irish Bar), was packed and a great night. After a few pints of Guiness I dont remember an awful lot!
Next day whilst reading the local rag in McDonalds for brekkie I realised that England were playing a friendly match v South Australia and it was due to start in 10 mins. So down went the Sausage and Egg McMuffin and me and Paul went to the Adelaide Oval. Was great seeing all the stars play, Flintoff & Co. It was so hot aswell, all we did was drink VB in the sun on the grass area and occasionally looked up to see the score. Best part was how much it cost to watch the match, $5 which is roughly 2 pounds, for a whole days internation cricket. Awesome!!!
Next stop Sydney and the East Coast!
