Groovy grape bus...
Where we sit for the next two days.... Ok, one day to recover from the wild night out and off we go again...
A 6.30am start this time!
It's a long trip with Groovy Grape to Adelaide (1,570klms), stopping the night in Coober Pedy (690 klms).
We'd discovered Leith was going to be on the same trip, and after having spent 3 days with him on his mulga's trip - We knew what we were letting ourselves in for.
But what about his best buddie Steve, who would be doing the driving?
Would it be double the trouble? As expected, Steve turned out to be as much of a nutter as Leith.
I can only liken them to "TAZ" the tasmanian devil.
Constantly doing that low growling and there was no shortage of entertainment along the way.
(Don't know where they got their energy from, maybe it was the constant supply of "red bulls" that kept them so hypo.) Thinking the journey would be boring desert all the way,
we were suprised by all the different landscapes and wild life that we encountered.
The wedgetail eagle was the biggest suprise.
He was
This is Steve...
Our driver and guide for the next two days....
And did we tell you he's as mad as Leith! stood on the side of the road as we reached the painted desert and was ripping a kangaroo apart.
Standing over a metre tall, he looked big enough to carry one of us away!!!
But where was the camera? In it's case as usual! But there again not much good when your travelling 130 klms an hour. On nearing Coober Pedy ( the opal capital of the world) the landscape changed, to something like a moonscape.
Totally baron with an assortment of pointy mountains of dust, left over from the opal mining.
Found out later that "Pitch Black", "Mad Max" and "Priscilla Queen of the desert" were filmed there.
We settled in to our caves for the night...
Yes! I said caves. With temperatures reaching over 50c,
the inhabitants live underground.
After a night in the underground pub and a good nights sleep,
we headed onwards to Adelaide.
Not much to see,
apart from dead kangaroos and salt lakes along the way.
Reached Adelaide in the early evening.
It was only after saying goodbyes to everyone,
that we found out that Leith was staying at the same
On the border
But will they let you in.... hostel as us!!!
Will we ever be rid of him????? (Meant in the nicest possible way of course)
