Well it is a long time since I wrote. Last entry was from Lake Alexandrina at Meningie which was incorrect. It was Lake Albert but it joins up with L Alexandrina - either way it was a beautiful spot. Drove from there to Victor Harbour via Wellington where we crossed the river on the ferry. Stopped at Strathalbyn for morning tea and heard that the 'torch' was on it's way. On our way to Goolwa we passed the C'wealth Games torch and its entourage - much tooting and waving even from the police escort. Lunched in Goolwa where the Murray empties into the sea and there is great concern about what will happen to the river if we continue to use so much water. There is only a trickle being allowed out at the moment and a lot of dredging going on to keep a channel clear. Went on from there to Victor Harbour where we booked into the Beachfront Caravan Park. Didn't pay for a beach front site this time because there was quite a stretch of dunes between the park and the sea and as the CP was only half full. We had a great view anyway and as
Victor Harbour
Horse drawn tram to Granite Island we have found so far facilities were excellent. Spent the next day driving around the Flerieu Peninsula right down to Cape Jervis where the ferry leaves for Kangaroo Island. I believe the island is beautiful but it was going to cost over $500 to take the two of us the van and the car. Decided against it as we were due in Adelaide the next day and would have liked to spend more than one day for that sort of money. The Peninsula itself is truly beautiful and you could easily spend a week or so in the area just enjoying the surroundings. Stopped at Normanville beach for lunch (Valentine's Day) and marvelled at how lovely everything was. Back to VH via Myponga and then a long walk on the pier to Granite Island which has a colony of fairy penguins and also a horse drawn tram to take visitors back and forth. Left next morning for Adelaide.
Booked in here for a week but end up staying 10 days. Caught up with our old mates the Sewells - drank and talked late into the night too many nights with them as well as a number of old friends
Sunday Funday
Mike & Jen Sewell, Jo and Val Davoren of mine. Meant we had a late start most mornings but didn't do a lot else in Adelaide apart from relaxing. Hired bikes one day in Glenelg and rode all the way to Semaphore and back - about 4 hours!!! The coastline here is beautiful. On the Gulf of St Vincent so no real surf beaches just miles and miles of clean beach with a jetty in every other suburb. Needles to say the real estate is the most expensive in SA with fantastic homes just like every other beachfront area in Australia. Went into Adelaide on the Glenelg tram one day and had a walk around the botanical gardens and on another day John had his trip to the dentist for an emergency filling. Had a home day whilst here and organised the van a bit. Threw out a lot of paper collected from various tourist organisations as well as other unnecessary items. Sunday 19th went to the Barossa with Jen and Mike for the'Sunday Funday' at Gibsons' Barossa Vale winery. These are old friends of ours and they have their own small family operated winery and once every 3 months they have a fun day with a band
Grange
Saying goodbye to Katie Sewell outside the Cellar Door and food and copious amounts of beautiful wine. This was a delightful day and made us look forward to our next stop which is with Anne and Rob Gibson in the Barossa Valley or BV as the locals call it. More about that later.
We stayed in the Adelaide Shores Caravan Park (used to be the West Beach CP) with a lot of other people of our vintage and older. Very quiet without all the school kids - lovely, and the setting is superb. We were about a 2 minute walk to the beach and the water was lovely and warm. Went out nearly every night to see friends and came home after 12 each night. John reckons the people in the park would have been glad to see the back of us after the diesel chugging in late every night disturbing their sleep! Highlights of Adelaide, apart from the friends, were Glenelg and its growing developments on the foreshore, the wonderful beaches all along the Western subusrbs coast, the tram trip into the city and all the beautifully restored old buildings. John says to add the sore bum from the 4 hour bike ride but I think that is more of a lowlight don't you? Off to the Barossa so will update again soon

We're buying a van!
Hi John and Jo, Just read the latest epistle with Gerri and we are on our way - well maybe not until we find someone who will take Rachel for 3 years! It sounds idyllic and I can certainly relate to Adelaide and its surrounds - make sure you buy plenty of that Barossa Shiraz. Great to see you are having a wonderful time. By the way, John are you getting the golf updates via your email address? Take care, love from Neild and Gerri
