21 Aug. Airlie early, met sailor over from Hamo. Said he saw flag flying from top performer Ngek Ngek. Photos viewable from Tropix.com.au . I'll have to scroll through. Drove toward Eungella. Took 'scenic' route turned to dust. Instantaneous ascent to valley lookout. Cool. Especially as the sun went down. 600 meter high. First guy (local) got sticker. Birdwatchers also interested. Three pied currawongs passed. Valley pretty mix of cane and trees. All good.
22 Aug. Eungella. Coastal cloud orange, then tinge of green. Above clear blue. Tiniest sliver of crescent moon and morning star Venus. Moss moving in westerly breeze. The sun appeared. Drove to see platypus. Not. Turtles yes. Walked rain forrest. Chorus of chirps, warbles, tweets, hoots, squeeks, peeps, cries, deep-throated coos, titters, Kookaburra and whipbird calls. Rain of fruit indicated feeding. I spotted grey birds with grey bulb on front of face and reddish raking plumage from back of head. Another group of birds forraged in the leaf litter (white bib, raking grey crest). Views of valley. Black fungus fruit on dead palms. Later above the road white orchid flower. Goana. Screeching cockatoos.
