Day 37 - Dumaresque Dam to Warwick
What a night that was! Considering our tranquil setting neither of us slept at all well! Dar was dreaming about crocodiles after Shirley told us about a lady on a horse that was chased by one and I was so restless and really hot, which was ironic because it was a really cold night again!
Darryl has been exercising his ability as a male to not have to visit the ‘amenities’ if they are too far from where we’ve parked the van! If he feels the need then he gets up in the middle of the night and so when I wake up and have to make the walk he then gets the whole bed plus the full quilt to himself! He seems to enjoy this new start to the day!
We can’t decide on which route to take today and by the time we’ve packed up we’re still not decided! We take a walk around the dam before we leave the site. There aren’t as many birds as we were expecting and our search for the elusive Koala continues although we did come across what we believe to be fresh Kangaroo Poo! We
were disappointed to see a lot of broken glass in the grounds of the recreation area and the almost guaranteed inclusion of a Hungry Jacks or McDonalds wrapper or drink carton. There are bins provided at these sites so it’s a shame that people just can’t be arsed to exercise their right to be environmentally tidy. Sigh.
Well our second freebie camping night was another good one and we’re on the road in good time to who knows where! We really need to do some laundry before we get to Willowbank, oh and somewhere for a shower! That’s limiting our choices of destination somewhat and a few phone calls later have scrubbed another two possibilities off the list.
We see plenty of signs that make us laugh out loud today, Worms For Sale was one example! Others were the waving Koala sign to indicate to be careful as they may be crossing the road, another was the $30’000 fine you could expect for keeping rabbits. They are regarded as a pest out here of the highest order. We cross the state border leaving New South Wales and enter Queensland!
As far as selecting a site goes, we decide on Stanthorpe
just south of Warwick but when we get there we miss the caravan park and can’t be arsed to turn around so continue on to Warwick! Our Uncle lives here but he’s away for another couple of weeks so we’re going to head to the Big 4 Kahler’s Oasis Caravan Park as we’ll get a bit of a discount and our Big 4 passport stamped, one park closer to our prize for visiting something like 20 different sites within the group!
Warwick surprises us, it’s pretty big and quite spread out. It’s famous for the Rodeo which is on in October and also holds a Jazz Festival in July. At the moment though the park is nowhere near full so we pick a spot away from the highway that backs on to a cattle field. We manage to get a 20 minute complimentary internet pass too so that should help with the blog uploads that have been missing for the past few days!
Dinner is cooked on the camps 20c for 8 minutes BBQ! They’re not the greatest for cooking on for it means we don’t have to get ours out, or clean it and we’ve got a few 20c
coins that we save for just this!
With our laundry chores completed we’re on for an early night, but have a bit of a catch up on the TV for the news and are amazed at the latest antics of Spiderman (Ala Robert from France) who today scaled the Sydney RBS building which stands at 218 metres high! It looks spectacular but the police are far from impressed!
And so tomorrow we head to Willowbank, yippee! And talking of drag racing, nice one Ray on getting the number one spot in Ramraider last weekend!
We’re at the drags until after the weekend so we hope that we’ll be fully powered and available for Skyping on occasions too!
Take care

Wow
I can't believe you've hit QLD already, it took me 6 months to get that far when I was over there. Your pics of the flooding near the campsite reminded me of when I did Jacobs creek; that was in full flood (and still only 6 feet wide). Still, you two clearly having fun eh?
