We allowed ourselves two days to get to Townsville and meet Mich and Phil for Easter, and in retrospect probably not long enough to do the 1,500km journey. Though cracking out the k's over those two days felt like a proper road trip across the outback. The journey from Three Ways (where we left the Stuart Highway) to Townsville on the Queensland coast was flat and boring. Mount Isa was the main highlight, where we spent an hour filling up with fuel, water etc. Enough said.
