Cape Tribulation
two world heritage protected spots next to each other.. From Magnetic Island I went to Cairns (making that stop at the crocodile farm). We arrived pretty late so i did not have the chance to see much of the city (well...nothing at all). The next morning (thursday) I was picked up by a bus to go to Cape Tribulation. This National park is about 160 km from Cairns. Australia has 18 diferent spots declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. Only in Queensland you can find 5 of them and two of these are here: the daintree national park (a jungle) and the Great Barrier Reef, each one next to the other. Of my nice trip i only have this picture (the one i uploaded yesterday)...my camara has been stolen or i lost it yesterday night. It hurts horribly to have lost all my pictures since brisbane! I just wanted to make a copy of them, but the shop was closed. And now, no pictures nor videos, nor nothing of all the best spots of the east coast. great.
Cape Tribulation really is a very nice place, a real jungle, next to the sea. Impressive. the national park itself is bigger than 200 million hecatrs, but only 900 of them are world heritage. There are more than 3000 types of plants, and there are of course parts which havent still been 'disocvered'. In a pair of hectars you can find more diferent types of plants than inwhole Europe!!
On our way, we stopped in different plances. One was a type of world heritage zoo, were we saw all the different types of animal you can find around OZ. It was pretty cool, because the animals were not in cages, but in big tents made out of nets, inside which all the birds could perfectly fly, or the kagoroos jump around withou problems. I didnt know that there are tree-kangoroos!! really funny!! a mixture between a bear, a kangoroo and a koala, in brown..
Afterwards we made a criuse on the river. It started to rain, so it was very easy to see lots of snakes on the trees (they get more active with the rain), many frogs and we also could see a small (around 3 months old) wild crocodile!!! very small, so not really impressive, but anyway, a wild one!!
This territory is also famous for its Cassowaries, one of Australias most typical birds. It's a type of emu, almost has high as me, with black feathers, but a blue red and yellow neck, and a very weird thing on their head. Really weird but very nice! The thing is that there are only about 55 cassowaries left in this territory!! And we (a German guy and me) were so lucky, that wjhile we went for a walk on the beach we saw one of them!!! They are supposed to be very agressive, but we got pretty close and could take really good pictures (which i now dont have anymore!!!)...
Our hostel was in themiddle of the daintree forest, small bungalows, very basic, but the ambience was great. When it got dark all the animals (specially birds and frogs) started to make lots of different noises. I went for a night walk through the jungle which was absolutly amazing. I wet with a group of people and a local man, with torches, to the Cooper Creek. it had been raining the whole day, so all the animals were very active. We saw really horrible spiders, lots of snakes and lizards... the noises were absolutly stunning, we switched all the torches at the same time off and concentrated on what we heard. Noises that seemed to come from a bird, were made by frogs, laughings made by birds...it was so dark that i could not see my own hand before my face. Only small spots of grey if you looked up. You almost couldnt see the sky because of the density of the trees and leaves..
On friday i was supposed to get on a boat to go diving to the great barrier reef...but there was so much wind that all the trips to the reef were cancelled!!! i couldnt believe it!! i only had one day to go diving in this spot, and i couldnt go!!! I spent the morning on the beach, under some of the jungle trees , enjoying the impressive view, the different green colours...In the afternoon i decided to go jungle surfing!! like tarzan!! haha really reallygreat!! the highest spot where you were hanging of those robes was almost 30m high, a really grat view to the sea aswell. It was nice to see the rainforest from the top, although it is more or less the same than if you see it from below: leaves and green!! 😊 And in one of the 'trips' from one of the platforms to the other, we did you up side down!! haha really funny! it is such a big pitty that i cant show you pictures of this, you would have laught!!
this was my resumed Cape Tribulation adventure. Then back to Cairns, dinner with friends, i tookmy last 2 pictures at midnight, got up at 4.30 to go to the airport and on the plane i noticed that my camara was missing. I really dont know what might has happened. I heard people coming back to the room around 3.30, but i was too sleepy to have a look..i had a pretty bad day because of this, but i already have bought a new camara to forget my lost one...sniff...i'll try to get pictures from other people..
muaaaaks!!!
