The 13hour bus journey actually wasn't as bad as i thought, i must have slept a fair bit because it seemed to pass by quickly enough despite the fact i was being used as a pillow by a welsh girl who would be on the same Fraser trip.
The hostel had a mini bus waiting at the bus depo which made my day as i really didnt want to have to have to wander round tryin to find the place, once at the hostel i treated myself to a great 2 hours of sleep and then headed out for some lunch at a bar / reataraunt place, looking at the menu i decided that a spicy tuna roll sounded good so i went ahead and orderd it and sat back content with my choice, 10 minutes later i was served some dead fish rolled in some rice - or as some people like to call it Sushi.. i almost cried and to top it of they gave us bloody chop sticks, it was like a scene on fear factor but as i'd forked out a huge $7 i felt obliged to force it down so i used the chop sticks
Ship wreck
Was built in Scotland and ended up here in 1935 ... i think in the only way i could figure out and speared the dead fish and gulped all 6 down whilst trying hard to forget the fact it was raw fish, not the greatest culinary experience of my life and i will be extra carefull to avoid the same mistake in future.
Anyway the next day we were off to Fraser island, we had to sit through an amusing government safety dvd and get a talk of the company before they let us off on our own on the island, i was in a group of 11 of which i already knew 5 and the rest were germans who were also anti social. As the ferry pulled up at the island we saw our first Dingo and then we were off on the shittest excuse for a road your ever likely to use, a rutted sand track which gave you a sore arse within a few hours, eventually we made it to the eastern beach which is basically the islands main road, you have to watch out for all the people wandering about as they cant hear the engine of cars above the sea noise and alsio watch out for any
hidden channels in the sand... and also planes which use the beach as a runway as one of the other vehicles in the group soon discovered, we also had only a 6 hour time frame to drive on the beach due to tides, and it was amazing sat at camp at about 8pm when there was only about a metre of very deep soft sand not covered by the sea to find all these crazy ppl still flying past in the 4 by 4's... none of them looked to be in much control of the vehicles either as the fished tailed past, anyway to cut a long story short Fraser wasnt a patch on the Whitsundays and the sand got every where including the tents and food. There was some nice scenery and some gorgeous fresh water lakes to swim in but i wouldnt go back, im glad i did it though and it was good to do it with people i already knew.
Had another drunken night in Hervey bay to celebrate doing Fraser, and after being attacked 3 times by a crazy ass magpie the next morning i was on the bust to Brisbane - my last
Lake McKenzie
Like swimming in a huge cool bath Ozzie destination.
Brisbane: nice city, freindly people, nothing to do or see... So i headed to Australia Zoo - Steve Irwins place on saturday with a freind i knew from Melbourne and had a really good day out there, patted koalas and kangaroos and got to see some 10 week old tiger cubs, i even paid the $5 to the conservation fund to get a wrist band and to get the keepers to take some close ups with my camera, went to the the croc show but it was a bit of a anti climax as the guy who did it really didnt have the charisma ols Stevey used to. The public transport to the zoo isnt great on a saturday the courtesy coach took us back to the train station at half 4 when the zoo closes but the next train back to Brisbane wasn't untill half 6, luckily there is a pub near the train station. Fair dinkum.
My last night in Oz was spent having drinks with the people i knew from the Fraser trip and then watching liverpool making hard work of beating Wigan.
Next stop Kuala Lumpur.
