Mon 2. Went to Nambour. Spruik early. Went to library for blog. Drove to Yandina, small spot spruik good fun. Saw King Parrot on real estate office but not in real life. Pretty country. Lunch in Coolum. Then north to coastal park I had walked before. Bush fire devestation. Paperbarks burned. All of the birds were gone. To where I know not. Coastal strip still green so I came over dune to perfect beach. Alone. Saw whales on horizon in repeated tail slapping. Serious splashing. View Mooloolaba sinking in the south to Noosa Heads in the north. Nudie swim sublime. Crows copulating on beach. Then back through burnt out bush. Only occasional cheep where before had been chirpy. Shoots on trees showed some would recover. Wonderful spruik on Sunshine Beach. Many takers reporting stickers had been sighted. Even detractors had the good sense to be polite.
Oct 3. Swam at 'A' Beach (Alexandria). Much whale breaching in the afternoon. All's well.
Oct 4. White bellied sea eagle. Sailing. Flying fish. Sublime rhumb line. Tacking inshore. For sure. Calmer waters for finish. My rib might be broken. Still hurts. Its been 2-3 weeks since I fell on it.
Oct 5. Drove to Ipswich then Toowoomba for interviews with newspapers. Should get both. Spruiked Toowoomba successfully. Took road to Esk and National Park. Huge trees, much bird chatter. Saw several but hard to identify. Driving toward Kilcoy saw flock of red-tailed black cocatoos. Very pretty country west of Brisbane. Hilly then the plateau, also hilly. Mixed agricultural. Toowoomba extremely tidy. No litter on streets. Very nice.
Oct 6. Morning Kilcoy. Heavy fog. Eastern 'Pale-headed' Rosella. Yellow head, red undertail coverts. Here its worth musing - why birds? The colours are so wonderful. And its great to see life other than the 6-8 billion humans and their foodstock. Then in to Maleny for another fantastic spruik. Newspaper reporter not available but later photographer took pic and I gave him my press release so she can do article. Above town lookout pale blue and black butterflies, extreme rapid flight. Lake Baroon walk butterflies and numerous birds. Best of all Bunya trees but.
