An eventful week with many highlights. In Cairns we were able to spend time with nephew Mark and wife Marlize. On Monday Mark showed us around Cairns and on Tues. around the Atherton plateau in the hinterland.Wed. we headed north to Port Douglas with camping gear for 5 days and Thurs. took the Quicksilver out to the Barrier Reef for snorkelling etc.Friday we came north to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Nat. Park.As soon as we made camp at Kimberley Beach a 1m. lace monitor ran around our tent site-fortunately no crocs.Yesterday we did the Bloomfield track-a 4wd route up to Cooktown. We had 5 stream crossings but the most daunting were the two ascents/descents-the Cowie Range being 1 in 3 gradient ie straight up/down-the landrover handled it in 1st gear low ratio-5kph!It was a long day and covered 450kms.Today we are at Mossman north of Pt Douglas and travel back to Cairns to collect the caravan tomorrow and start our westward journey.
