NYE
Ready for a night on the tear...woulda been better getting a cigar and slippers! Next years choice! lol Happy new year!
I have slacked something shocking! I think we did so much in our trip to Queensland that I take any opportunity I can back here in Perth to sit and do nothing. That's a bit of a lie...I spend every spare minute Knitting! I love it, I have ditched my blogging for knitting! I was trying to get a scarf knit for coming back, I''m not too confident I'll complete it though! But I extend my apologies for slacking so badly on the blog front!
I haven't even told you about Queensland!
Firstly though Sydney was amazing! I loved it! Flying in it looked great, the airport was great, the McD's we had in the airport was great. That one hour in Sydney was fantastic! My kinda town I predict! I'm definately going back there.
We arrived in Brisbane and met with Brian's cousin Storm, her partner Matt and Brian's Aunty Liz and Uncle Ed. We were no sooner aquainted than we were hitting the road to hook up with the rest of our road trip buddies for the 15 hour drive to Magnetic Island!
We seen a lot I mean A LOT of Queensland!
Road Trippers!
The full crew at our first pit stop in Gimpy! Visiting Dave's Nan. Lovely wee woman made us all tea and I had a chicken sandwich! We love nan! Brian's cousin Storm is a diamond, I totally love her! So me and her were yak yakkin away for the majority of the trip up. To shorten down details of the Road Trip: we drove up to Rockhampton (Rockie, of course), which took about 8 hrs and we stayed in a wee motel there and got blocked in the Irish bar and played pool. Rockie is well known for its beef, there were huge statues of bulls everywhere! lol Next morning we hit the road again for the final leg of our jaunt up to the magical island. On the way we saw a giant Crab and a giant Mango. I spent the majority of the trip looking out the window up the trees for Koalas! All in vain, I hate to report cause I really couldn't stop looking incase I missed one! We also saw our very first bush fire! Unbelievable!
We got the ferry from Townsville over to Magnetic Island. It was a glorious day, some of us had had a few in the car on the way up and were jolly. I was getting so exicited I nearly peed my pants. So when we first spotted
Bush Fire
Up near Townsville, huge fire creeping over the mountains. Unreal to drive beside because you know it can just flow out of control. the wee huts on the Island I was hyper excited, they looked like something you'd see in the movie "the beach". We were not let down by seeing it up close either. Backpackers Base Hostel on the Island is fanfriggintastic! I loved it. You can have an ensuit hut on the ocean front if you have the funds for it (really not that dear at all) or you can get a simple double room like me and Brain did which was just a bed or if your brave you can dorm room it...so theres something to suit all tastes and budgets. (Brian and I got upgraded the first night and so got to stay in the ocean front huts room and it was magneficent to open your eyes to the waves crashing on rocks outside your window!) I would strongly recommend if you can afford it the ensuit. It was Brian's first hostel experience. He's not a man to be swayed, I think Brian is more accustomed to Hilton style accomodation and he kept grunting and commenting on all the stinkers walkin about brushin their teeth, where's the decorum hey?! lol I laughed a lot at him. By the end
Magnetic Island
Arriving by boat and just seeing it for the first time. Weather wasn't the usual Queensland weather nearly the whole time we were there it was cooler than normal and rained. Still warm adn lovely though. though I think he was settling into it nicely! He doesn't know how lucky he is cause it was the best dang hostel I have ever stayed in!
First night we got blocked! Next day I was suffering! We had a nice wee day on the beach. I braved the odds and got into the sea even though it was stinger season and you could get stung by deadly jelly fish. But sure half the beach was in swimming. Needless to say I did not get stung!
That night, we got blocked!
Next day I was starting to slow right down, I was tired, overtired and maybe getting a little withdrawn, which I wish I hadn't of been cause I was having a ball but I think it was all really starting to catch up on me.
We spent the day a Koala Park where we held....wait for it,
a baby Crocodile! (scary monsters)
Blue tongued Lizard
a snake
and I got to hold a koala! (One of the best highlights of the trip for me!)
NYE was amazing, or could have been, the Base had a huge open air club night happening with some french DJ dude
Blocked
The party hadn't even started and I was the hammered! State of it. Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! playing (can't remember his name). But it rained and drink had been taken and I ended up arguing with Brain and we ended up missing most of the night! (I reckon Brian and I are not big on NYE parties, I've discovered I'd rather have a quiet one from now on. Not sure why, but it always seems to be a let down.) Brian and I recovered from our barney in time to have a bit of a boogie though.
New Years day we spent the day travelling around the island on a Moak (a wee, I don't know how to describe it, make shift jeep type thing). It was hilarious, I thought he was gonna ask me to get out and help push it up the hills, but soemhow it managed it! lol
Some of the bays on the island are stunning, some you can't get to by car and have to take long walks to, needless to say we gave those ones a miss, if the moak wasn't taken us there we weren't walking! lol
We spent New years day night on the beach in the moonlight having a few beers and listening to the waves crash
Dale the supermodel!
Brian's new best mate Dale! A man of much information, do you know about Cassowary's? in and out! It was the closest I have ever been to paradise!
We went for a late night swim in the pool as well, which over looks the ocean. Absolutely gorgeous!
Next day we were off, back on the road again, leaving behind the beautiful Magnetic Island, heading to Rockie for another $10 steak. Only this time we were full of memories, for life, of our paradise trip and I was adorning a massive new, never in fashion, coldsore on my face!
Ye can't have it all....what what!?
Happy new year guys!
