Hey everyone! It is Friday morning here and it is absolutely gorgeous! I don’t have class today, so I think I am just going to hang out and relax.
Last Sunday, a group of us went to Burleigh Beach. It was a lot of fun. I couldn’t wait to ride the waves, but it was actually really tiring and kind of scary. The waves kept taking me out and I would have to swim back out there ~ over and over. Also, since the beach was SO crowded, I was worried that I would be thrown into someone! I had never been swimming in the ocean when the water is that strong. Needless to say, I pretty much brought the entire beach home with me in my suit.
Monday was our first day of classes, so there is not too much to report. Classes here are a lot different than in Lexington. They are soooo small and a lot more personal. I have only been to each class once and all of my teachers already know my name. The lecture hall probably only has about 75 seats and it is never completely full. Lectures normally last about 2 hours
with an hour tutorial afterwards. This seems long, but I am only taking 4 classes and they only meet about once a week.
After class, I walked into town to get some school supplies because I didn’t want to pack them and take up space in my suitcase, so I just figured I would buy them here. No problem, right? Well I was wrong. All I wanted to buy were some simple pocket folders to organize my papers for each of my classes. I went to the bookstore and when I could not find them, I asked the lady where they were. She looked at me like I had about 18 heads. I tried to explain what they were and she said they didn’t have things like that. So at the paper store I asked again and again I got the deer-in-the-headlights look. The guy pointed to some 3-ring binders and said “pocket folders?” Finally, I ended up having to buy these flimsy plastic thingys. They aren’t pocket folders, but I’ll survive.
The university had some computer issues, so quite a few people had messed up timetables (schedules). My timetable only showed some of the classes that I
was taking, one of which overlapped with another class!!! So all week I ran around like a crazy person, trying to get another class to transfer back to UK. Luckily, to make a VERY long story short, UK FINALLY got back to me and said that the class I needed would transfer, so it’s all good now.
For once, I am actually pretty excited to go to class. I am taking Nutrition, which is identical to the class I had last semester. I am also taking Early Childhood Development, Developmental Disability, and Australian Sport in the Modern Era. For my Early Childhood Dev, we get to observe a child for about 6 weeks and do a report on how they are developing psychologically, emotionally, etc. For Developmental Disabilities, I am going to do a case study for one of my assignments. Lastly, for Australian Sport we will be learning about the history of sport in Australia, as well as learn the rules and get to play cricket and rugby!
I just got back from signing up for different clubs that Bond offers. I signed up for swimming, water polo, and cricket!! I don’t know if I’ll have time
for all of this, but I think each club only practices a couple of times per week, so I will wait and see what happens.
Tonight I am going out to dinner with some girls to a cheap Mexican place that we found in town and tomorrow is beach day. The campus is providing transportation, so that’s good!
*UPDATE:
So in my last blog, I wrote about these spiders that everyone supposedly keeps seeing. I finally was graced with one of these fine creatures’ presence in the gym today. Now they aren’t really the size of dinner plates like people say, but they are quite large. I’d say that they are about the size of a small baseball when the legs are stretched out. Hopefully I will not see one in my room hiding in one of my shoes or in my bed or something. Keep your fingers crossed.
Sorry this one was kind of boring guys!!! I miss everyone back at home and I hope everyone is doing well! I love hearing from you all and reading all of the comments that you post!
Love,
Kelly
