Trippin'
Road trippin' that is. Well we have got back from Queensland.
We traveled up there for a bit of business and thought we might as well see some sights as well.
Our first stop was Ballina. I was exhausted after woking all night and the trip up so I crashed for a few hours while Az had his meeting. We went out that night in Ballina with a couple of Az's work collegues. We soon found out that there is a reason why Ballina isn't exactly known for its vibrant night scene. We started at a bowling club. Then moved to a pub that we were the only people in. Then we went to another pub that was a bit more lively but had horrible karaoke (but when does karaoke ever sound good?)
After an ordinary party atmosphere, we headed north to Byron Bay the next day. We had a quick squiz at Lennox Head on the way. It was worth a look and a few happy snaps. Quickly moving on from there, we shortly after arrived in Byron. We checked into our hostel and took a little trip out to the most easterly point on the Australian mainland.
Byron is
The Big Banana
Gets smaller everytime I see it. full of backpackers, hippies, try-hard skaters and people not worth mentioning. I wasn't really impressed with Byron. It's picturesque, but the township itself is not terribly appealing. We tried to go out that night but were too stuffed so we thought we would save our selves for the next night.
We started out the next morning bound for the Gold Coast. A stop was required at Tweed Heads to stand on the NSW and QLD boarder. I haven't stood in 2 states since standing in both Arizona and Nevada, so it was good to do it back in Oz again.
We also met up with our grandparents who also were in the area at the time. They were headed for Coombabah to see some friends.
Then we hit Surfers Paradise. We were staying in Southport so it was a little ways into Surfers itself but it was all good. Wandering down Cavil Avenue, its easy to see why this is a major tourist attraction. We had a beer in an irish pub and took in some ten pin bowling. There was a place where you could shoot some guns but we had a look and it was
You dirty car
Don't we all?? pretty expensive so we decided against it.
We checked out Jupiters Casino. I tried to get in wearing an "offensive" t-shirt. Dispite not talking very favourably to terrorists, security still had thier reasons so I had to change shirts. We were going to place a few bets but being saturday night, the minimum bet was $25 so we decided against. The only bet we did put on was for the Raiders to win 1-12 over the Broncos (Which they just missed out on)
That night we hit Cavil again and went to a few different places like Shooters to watch the Wallabies just miss out on a victory over the Springbok. We met a few local guys who were watching the rugby aswell, plus a guy from Brazil who is living in New Zealand and in town for a bit of a break. We had a good time with those guys for a while untill they left and we partied on untill 3am.
During our wander around Cavil we ran into a guy who had obvious mental problems and wanted to pick a fight everyone and everything (He was abusing a light post for a while) Because
Jack lives here!
Well he does wherever I go. Somewhere in Ballina in this case. I happened to look in his direction, he rode his undersized girls bike over to me and started asking the "trying to get me to fire up" questions like
What are you looking at?
Are you looking for trouble?
and my personal favourite
I'm f***ing Aussie, are you f***ing Aussie?
(With a thick New Zealand accent)
It ended with a congratulatory hand shake of being proud Aussie's, and "Oh here comes my friends the cops, I gotta go brother" Me being a bar tender in a bar with some clientele that isn't exactly the pinnacle exemplary citizens, I am used dealing with such idiots and had an answer to every futile question he fired at me.
The next morning, we began our long trip back 9 1/2 hours of it. It was a nice little getaway for a weekend. This blog is mainly a bit of practice for my big trip in October to South East Asia.

haahaha
I've always wondered what the state border looks like at Tweed Heads. It's funny how it cuts the airport in half...
