Lake McKenzie
A picture perfect Postcard huh?.... The famous Fraser Island Jeep safari... after having our briefing, getting into our group and doing our shopping ready.
Our first task was failed we blew our shopping budget by 20$ and we didnt even get round to get some snacks...POOPSTER!!!!...
The Next morning everyone was pretty eager, although we was all up by 7am and having our free breakfast at Pippies we had 3 group so getting ourself sorted out took ages and by the time we arrived to Fraser Island and had some quick lunch it was late afternoon.
It was such ashame as we was time limited to driving in the beach due to the tide and also it get dark pretty early too. So after trekking for 45minute to our first Lake "Wabby" we literally only had 15mins to enjoy its beautiful white sand dune and refreshing cool lake.
DILEMA 1..... "Finding our Camp site" was the next Dilema, We had brought loads of food for a good old BBQ, was even going to make homemade Burgers so we was pretty determined to find this campsite with BBQ facilities...Unfortunately we drove up and down the beach so did the other 2 jeeps, is seemed like
we either have been missed informed or simply misunderstood. Anyhow it was getting late and many of the crew was getting fed up and just simply wanted to set up camp also the tide is quickly rising so we decided to camp on the beach campsite and cook the food in the pan instead.
HIGHLIGHT 1.... " Dancing in the moonlight" After cooking and statisfying everone hungry bellies, I started on the GUN (thats the cheap wine here in OZ, 8 litres for only 10$) We then decide to go to beach, unfortunately you are not allowed to swim in the beach here due to jelly fish and stingers and even sharks. What was even more amazing than the beautiful stars above was glittering sand, It was amazing and so magical. As you walk on the sand it glow and when you kicked it, it was like glitter. Thought we was all like Michael Jackson... we all went crazy dancing and kicking sand about... It really was pretty cool, something we wasn't expecting.
HIGHLIGHT 2 ... "Off Roading in the sandy rainforest"... 4 wheel driving through the lush rainforested was amazing, i probably drove a bit to fast
through some parts so caused a we bit of injuries on some fellow passengers...but it had to be done!!!!... i felt bad but also NOT!!...it gave them something to complain about and a stories to tell..hehehehe
HIGHLIGHT 3 ... "Lake Birrabeen" after making it to the lake after my crazy driving, although the lake was still very nice and quite we was all a little dissapointed as we was looking forward to getting our body covered with mud.... Where was the MUD?.... Rambo discovered the mud and as if was like gold "The Mud Rush" was went storming over covering ourself with mud, later to find out the mud was everywhere just under the white sand...DOPE!!!
Cleaning off the mud was more of a challenge especially with Dave and Chris attacking us with flying mud bombs....grrrrrr...we had to use the fine white sand to scrub it off, was great for the skin some serious exfoliation..our skin was so soft after 😊
HIGHLIGHT 4 ... "Getting bogged in" the sand was fun, caused a bit of traffic but was great for a photo opportunity and to see everyone working together.
HIGHLIGHT 5 ... "Lake McKenzie" Yep this
is a beautiful stunning white sand and perfect blue/green lake. POSTCARD Image the only downside was it was a little over crowded so to try to catch a photo with no one on it was hard and needed some patient...so you guys better enjoy the picture. 😊
DILEMA & HIGHLIGHT ... "DINGO ATTACK" you really do have to clear your food after eating, no time to rest and enjoy a natter. At one point we was surrounded by 3 dingo's. poor Monique was so scared she frozed whilst everyone tried to find something to throw at it.
Rambo decided to chase it away...CRAZY GIRL thats why we call her Rambo...NUTTER!!!!...
"ALSO NEVER LEAVE FOOD IN THE TENT" another advise given too us...Hmmm ...That is so true, i was woken up in the middle of the night to a loud scratching sound and all the sudden the tent was shacking... i started to scream waking up the other 2 in my tent who also started screaming which i think actually scared of the Dingo....Phew... we found out the next morning that it made a huge hole in the tent so it must have at less had its snout or even
its head in the tent. hmmmm...not good.
The last Day was a full day planned but we was unlucky as it was raining and very grey so we decided that there was no point heading up to Indian head to spot Whales, Sharks and etc. Although on our first day we saw some from the beach that was really showing off, splashing away and playing in the water. So we headed up to the shipwreck, Pinnacle which i thought was nothing to amazing, and then to Eli Creek where Rambo and me braved it into the cold water. The others decided they wanted to head back to the mainland for the Pub...personally i would have prefer to take the jeep off road again but i was outnumbered and so we headed back.
DILEMA 2 ... "Monique Driving" I think everyone at the back was pretty scared and frighten of her driving especially when her and Bram decided to go over the rocks on the beach. They didnt want to lose their deposit. I thought it was really funny watching everyone panic and argueing whilst stuck on the rock...so where should we go left or right?, over the salt
David Sleeping on the beach
Notice the Dingo footprints next to him?...ohoh water or over the rocks?... we made it back to the mainland safe and sound and luckily didnt get charge for the tent either...phew.
So as you can se there was many highlights to the trip and also even the dilema's was fun for me.
