Looking good...
..or should that be drunk! Mason our deck hand on our boat in Whitsundays out on the town in Airlie Beach Carry on up the coast….
That sounds like a movie doesn’t it?! Well, what we saw on Fraser and while cruising the Whitsunday Islands could have come straight out of a movie, it didn’t take much imagining. After we left Rainbow Beach we headed up to Hervey Bay and got ready for our Fraser trip. Now, most people opt for the four wheel drive self drive option when doing Fraser Island but me and Fran decided on a tour (Sylvia out travel agent sold it to us!) which in the end was fantastic. We loved it, had some great people in our group and shared some fantastic scenery and moments together. Fraser is the worlds largest island made entirely of sand which is quite random…I mean how on earth does an island made of sand come into existence?! Random. Anyway…we did a two night 3 day tour which was perfect…we got to see a lot more than other people that left the tour a day before us and got to have two awesome full English breakfasts…well nice! We visited several picturesque lakes, some of which were so pure that nothing lived in them! Lake McKenzie was nice but really popular….on

Drunk and messy our last day we had lake Birrabean all to ourselves (6 of us that were left on the tour) an we made sandcastles and stuff. Our tour guides were awesome as well…..so awesome in fact that I’ve forgotten their names….!
Fraser is meant to be home to loads of Dingo’s but we only saw one…maybe due to the fact that we were in a huge lorry type vehicle which made shed loads of noise. People we met who had saw loads were camping out on the island and so saw loads more. Not a big deal though cause they are basically wild dogs….Our accommodation was spot on as well, lovely wood cabins surrounded by wildlife, we saw some flying squirrels called Sugar Gliders which was cool…they soar through the air from tree to tree. Saw a couple of snakes, some random insects and some turtles from a place called Indian Head (a high vantage point where you can sot tons of marine life, sometimes sharks, we didn’t see much though!). Had a night on the booze and made friends with people on our tour….hello to any of you that might be reading this, peace and love. Loved Fraser, the

At the bar on Fraser only bad thing was the weather, it was pretty wet although we had one good day of sunshine. Can’t moan though, beautiful place.
After being on Fraser we went back to our hostel for a night. We weren’t meant to be staying the night, meant to be getting on a bus and goin up to Airlie Beach but we met a Dutch couple who very kindly offered to drive us up to Airlie as they too were goin there. We managed to sort it out with the hostel and they were good to us. Did loads of washing and packed ready for the morning. Had an early start the next day as we had a long way to go. Had a few stops on the way, panicked when it got dark….but only hit one animal..! That sounds cruel but when it gets dark in Australia you have to be careful of kangaroos as they can damage not only the car but whoever is inside as well! Got to Airlie safely and checked into our hostel, one which had been described by people we had met previously as ‘crap’…well it wasn’t that bad but then it wasn’t that good! Loads

Shipwreck on Fraser of roach’s in the shower and it was pretty dirty but then what do people expect when your paying ten quid for a night! We got our heads down and got some sleep…eagerly anticipating our sailing trip that started the next day.
We got ourselves down to the marina and waited to be grabbed by our crew. Our boat was called the Alexander Stewart and it was a beautiful tall ship. The crew of three were Reggie the Skipper and his wife Jackie who was the chef (fantastic food….really good) and Mason the deckhand who was quality fun. There was 13 of us altogether on the ship and everyone got on well, that was really lucky as we had heard some stories where people had bad experiences on ships so we were pleased with the company! Apart from lazing around reading and chatting we also did some snorkling and explored Whitehaven Beach which was superb. A beach is a beach…..but this one was voted one of the top ten beaches in the world and when you are there its easy to see why. White sandy beaches and clear blue sea with sea-life swimming in the shallow water that surrounded
the many sandbanks just off-shore. We waded through the water to a sandbank and had stingrays swimming past our legs, got a bit freaked out by this so I went back to the beach, pussy! Anyway, we also got to lick the bum of an ant….it was really sharp and sweet in taste but a little bit random. Like Fraser we both loved this trip, just chilling out on deck and doing nothing for a couple of days was great! It was hard at first to sleep on a ship but I got used to it and found it quite relaxing! It was weird once we had returned to dry land though, we were swaying when standing still…bit strange!
When we got back to shore we all met up for a meal at Beaches bar and then went on the lash. Messy night, went to Mama Africa’s and didn’t get in til gone four, had a great time with our crew and new friends from the boat…hello to everyone we met, take care wherever you may be! Remember the German word for butterfly and to hold on to that noodle hard!! Haha….
Anyway, we are back in Sydney
now, staying with our friend Nathan again who is kindly putting us up for a couple of weeks. Going back to Perth soon and can’t wait to get back to the west coast, love it there. Enjoyed some of the cricket we have seen even tho we lost it was still a good experience! Take care everyone and look forward to seeing you all soon. By the way, cheers for all the new years emails and texts, had a wicked time with mates that we met in Perth and some friends from home that are over, got a bit messy….and the fireworks in Sydney were fantastic.
Peace and love
