watching the races in the stands
Hello all! I just got back from a weekend in Charters Towers. There's nothing really special about this town it's just that JP's sister Kathrine lives there and we were invited down for the Charters Towers Races. The races are a big thing here in Australia. Everyone gets really dressed up and wears big hats and feathers. So naturally I was excited to go cause I got to buy a new dress. We made a couple bets but didn't win any. Most of the day was spent drinking and eating and meeting new people. It was really fun but next time i'll know to dress up even more. I'll have to post some pictures of the get ups some people were wearing. They even had prizes for the best hat, best dressed under 15 women, best dressed 16-24 women, best dressed couple and best dressed classic women which is a nice way of saying old hahaha. At the end of the day they brought out a band to keep the party going. Because people arrive early afternoon for this thing people were plastered from a day spent drinking in the sun. Kathrine's roommate (whom she doesn't like very much) ended up

wetting herself and getting taken out by the police. She didn't like this so much so she started screaming and kicking and being generally crazy. She was puking everywhere and the cops made Kathrine and the the other roommate Rebecca go home with her to make sure she was ok. JP and I stayed till the end though but when we got back to Kat's place they told us they had sent the crazy girl to the hospital cause she was so sick. She's not gonna feel so good today when she wakes up. So the night had a little drama but all and all it was a great time. I think I have another races to go to in a couple weeks for the Melbourne cup. We're not going to go to Melbourne but I guess it's still a big thing to go to the local race track and watch it. They call it the race that stops the nation so I assume it'll be a big event.

As for near future plans....next weekend i'm heading to my first Rugby League game. The world cup is being held in Australia and Townsvilles stadium is hosting Paupa New Guine.
