Musgrave Roadhouse
A tank at Musgrave Although we are eager to make our way further north, leaving Lakefield is disappointing as it is a beautiful little piece of Queensland. We set out heading for Coen but a local at Musgrave Roadhouse suggested we push on until Archer River which we did.
Archer River, which consists of a roadhouse and a river, is a nice place to break the journey. The river crossing, 1 minute from the campgrounds, is a safe swimming spot which Lorelei and Mitchell made the most of. They also enjoyed patting the friendly horses that came up to the fence each afternoon and climbing the rocks that littered the area.
We had some success with the camp oven here with a fruit loaf and tea cake, each of which only lasted one meal.
Friday night’s entertainment was supplied by a vocal local at 3am. We left the next morning, bleary eyed heading for Weipa to restock the boys fishing supplies. Toni and I are hoping that this will enable them to catch more than just gum trees.
