Cairns...paradise found!!

We started off the day by sprinting to the airport after a 2 hour nap from 5am-7am and scarfed down McDonald's breakfast like it was our last meal. I don't care where in the world you are, if you don't like McDonald's brekky, there is something wrong with you.

Cut to us getting on the plane, eyes barely open from lack of sleep and egg mcmuffin food coma. First thing we notice when we sit down is that the plane seats have tv's in the back of them. Second thing we notice is that the only channel you could watch was running an extensive story about a plane crash the night before. Sweet. Anyway, once in the air Jessa fell asleep against the window for the entire flight, Erin tried not to nod off onto the old lady next to her and we made it to Cairns in 3 hours.

We were WAY overdressed. It was probably 87F (30C) and humid there and we had on shoes, sweatshirts and pants...not cool. The hostel we were staying at took 45 mins to come pick us up, so we sat in the heat tried to stay positive with a couple from Texas going to the same hostel. Arriving at the hostel we realized we hit the jackpot, that place was awesome! Very quaint, clean and bright. Super nice staff who helped us book our dive for the next day.

So Cairns doesn't actually have a beach, it's all mud flats and mangroves, so they built this giant pool they call "The Lagoon" which is beautiful and right on the coast. There were too many kids in that pool for us, so we just looked around, pinched ourselves a few times and set off for dinner at this bar called the Woolshed. It was like $10 for a HUGE dinner, drink and dessert. Loved that.

Cairns was pretty dead around 9pm on our walk back from dinner, so we figured we'd take this opportunity to belt out some showtunes (Hair...duh, although Jessa learned some Les Mis so that was thrown in the mix) in the middle of town...idiots. Got back and prepared for our dive!

Couple notes...like everyone at the hostel smoked, it was brutal. Pretty much everyone we've met up here has been either British, Irish or German. It's a HUGE holiday destination. Jessa sometimes has a hard time with the accents, so Erin translates haha

It's sooooo laid back up here, lots of people walking around barefoot, in bathing suits, even in the bars and restaurants....hmmm sounds like Hermosa Beach! We are very at home here 😊
