july 3 ingham. top spruik. four large to another owner who will fly at her show stall. good to overcome the bad feelings from my previous ingham encounter. walked through show in preparation. again met bloke with flag stall. he gets current large for $1.80!!!! would only stock mine at $5. no can do. so i parkedup in town to avoid biting bugs and endured the traffic noise. under gnarly fig, branches with staghorn epiphytes, shaded as sun sat, rested.
july 4 myriad stars, southern cross setting, cane trains rumbled by in the night. then early past can and cattle, forrest and up, winding up, sunlight streaming through the trees to stop and look back and down to mist on the plain. ate papaya from townsville tree, boiled billy for tea. then wallaman falls australia's highest year round. bush walk, plenty birds including coucal, yellow breasted robin, black ground forrager, one with barred undertail. kfc, ingham now ghost town show public holiday. to five mile waterhole for a few hours. assorted travellers.
july 5 drive to and spruik innisfail, allways good. called scott woodford folk festival bloke and stayed for dinner. his housemate worked variously bananas, cane and tiling. low wages, drugs, paid child support three years till found out medically impossible. etc. a long extraordinary tale. and mumsie his fat frizzled partner. scott of bad back, cigarettes, bourbon and cokes. we the people.
july 6 sun strewn day cairns locals playing in park, me first sandfly bite welcome. green green grass, burger and shower. jeffry archer for reading. read and write. games and helicopter. skateboard, bike, wet tropics holiday. shouts, almost ululations, hands clapping, chatter. birds too. 4:20. low tide, mudshelf running dry. more shouts, more fun. sunday arvo.
july 7 rain in the night nad day. morning walk docks and river, passed casino.email and library. 'australian ' all good news except rudd is serious about saving the planet. a man with vision. rudd our obama. australia in the lead? one prediction i might of been right. if not australia, who? we've got the cash from coal and oil, let's go sloar. no one's got more than us. reordering the UN imperative. certainly it's failed. failed to stop bush, blair and howard. india, pakistan and iran for the bomb. the muslim cries out, no one listens. brute force in afghanistan our answer. iraq's coming good? they'll be mates with iran!!!! don't mention mugabe, he's not threatened israel or sitting on oil. and i sit writing, edo de vaart on the radio, tree dripping, windows misted by my breath. can there be peace at last? on this troubled earth, we cry. tiolets for world's poor, teachers want more on community radio. note: alteration of boomerang. now it flies. twent one years and counting. and even as i sit here those stickers go round. someone seeing them now. seeds sprouting, growing in the soil of the future.
july 8 good thing they're going round cause i did nothing. long walk, later long talk with german lads and japanese tasbibito. overcast.
