July 11. Mild night at last. Spoke to '7' newsteam in underground carpark. Felt like 'Deep Throat' in D.C. Warm sunshine. More stickers gone out, many more stories. Went to jetty to see Duyfken from Freo. Met Peter Tagliaferri mayor, old mate and his 16 year old daughter. Time, time. Also met yachting types just in from PNG and Solomons. One woman solo, who's going anti-clockwise around aussie. Bloke, Nick, working on super power yacht wanted burgee. Prominade, gull, ibis, lapwing, lark, swallow, lorikeet. Bush stone curlew in carpark at night.
July 12 Warm night due to cloud cover. Council workers with blowers. Mud flats where mangrove saplings are cleared, Caspian tern (world's largest), gull-billed tern, eastern curlew, black-headed tern, godwit, etc. Hello, hello. Wandering, wishing, hoping, dreaming. Met American went to uni Bucknell USA 1967. He said I know you and he did! John Munshower. Like meeting yourself forty years later. Time machine. He told stories equal of mine of struggle against ignorance and resisting draft into Vietnam. He threw cocktails. True! (Not me). And he is sailing around world with family. He's promised to nominate me for honorary doctorate when SC&B flys atop Parliament House. Oh yes, he got burgee/courtesy flag to fly in Darwin. Ommmmmmm. Chatter of lorikeets. Two pints of Guiness. Hot shower? Yes. Then more Israelis sounding ready for a future for all of us. Nightfall. Plate piled high. Day of dreams come true.
July 13 Little egret, common redshank, Terek snadpiper? (very long bill). Walked to docks and saw 'Phoenix' manouvring. She came past, they 'weren't leaving today'. Spruiked while I waited. Five stickers and a burgee distributed. Later found out NAIDOC festival and spruiked good good. Met pretty island girl who brought up Compass program. She was contemtuous of its bias, Kerry Jones explanation that it represented 'our' history - terra nullius lives. (cont.)
