Sept 22- Oct 1st
Had good flight to Sydney via Auckland-we stayed one night in Sydney, in Randwick and just tried to adjust to the different day and time etc. Quite warm weather. Then flew up tp Cairns on 25th- we stayed 5 nights there in a backpackers place but in a double room. Nice and quiet, weather good as it went cool in the evening. we took the scenic train up to Kuranda and did a short walk in the rainforest. The other dasy we went to different beaches on the coast- we were bowled over by how long and empty they were despite it being school hols. Cairns is really tropical with fruitbats adn parrots flying about in the evening. We are noe staying in Port Douglas which is further north up the coast about 50k. Have booked to go snorkelling at teh great barrier reef tomorrow - very excited. Just going to spend the afternoon on the 4 mile beach which is 5 mins walk away- its really hard sand perfect for running/jogging on and its very shady!!!
