Well, have been here for just over a week now and am def. settling into this way of life! If any of you are in need of some major chilling out, do this. It's so liberating to be able to do what you want, when you want and if what you want to do is nothing, thats fine too. Also trying to fit in with the aussie ways so am being converted to a beer drinker; its really not so bad but i wouldn't recommend 'beez neez' which is a honey wheat beer and has a v. wheaty aftertaste-eurgh!I'm sure i'll revert back to my white wine drinking ways when i hit the wine region next year!
Slowly adjusting to this new way of life. Things like sharing rooms, constant changing faces in those rooms and bunk beds (and the one im currently in has no ladder so i have to vault up there to have a snooze- top bunk was all that was left 😞 !) Also felt bit self concious 'bout hanging out my smalls (or not so smalls!) on communal washing line and such like but quickly realised that there is no definition of 'normal' when it comes to backpacking and nobody bats an eyelid about anything which is v.cool.
Have done lots of touristy things in first week - museums, art galleries, beach, shopping, gardens, chinatown and lots and lots of walking. Also seen some weird and wonderful wildlife - when i was at roma street parkland i came across a bearded dragon which was about 30cm long!!Often see tiny little lizards running along the walls - there quite cute really.Had a friendly cockroach attempt to join me in my shower yesterday- wasn't partic. happy about the situation but didn't scream the place down like the girl in the cubicle next to me!
I'm hoping the wildlife will be a bit more traditional when i start at the sanc. on mon. Cant wait to start and will keep you posted about what im getting up to and how close ive managed to get to those wombats!Only downside will be that ill have to get up at 6.15am-that's v.early compared to the last few days but will be worth it.
Going to 'Buddha Birth Day Festival' over on the southbank tomorrow- theres supposed to be street performers, live music, food stalls, an art and craft market and fireworks over the river in the eve-should be good.
Still no photos to add im afraid cos i haven't taken enough to get them put onto cd yet but give me a little bit longer-im sure ill take loads when im at the sanctuary.
Will try and update it again soon, if im not too busy having fun in the sun 😊

Bugs,Beer&Bikini's- a mans ideal women?
Glad that you're hardening to the 'wildlife' inside the bathroom. I'm a little concerned about the beer drinking??? I hope you dont expect Anne and I to sink a few pints with you when you return?:) You should be aware that you're bags are being aired as often as possible! (message from my mum- she doesn't wish to know when you're out in your bikini in the stinking hot weather- when is peeing down out here- she says wait until she's in her bikini (eughk!) by the pool and then you can tell her this!!) We've since had some smashing weather- mild high of 27 recorded on Thurs- but due to rain today. Enojy yourself. Take care. Good luck for monday. Will be thinking of you. Thanks you for the personal birthday wishes made me smile all day:)Sarah x x x
