Mornin!!
Well its 9.30am here and weve arrived in Brisbane - not so peachy after no sleep in 24hrs & another 3 hours until we can check into hostel & sleep - aaarrrghhhh!!! Anyway, cant really say much bout Oz yet as we have only seen the airport & McDonalds (not very cultural we know!) So, we will fill you in on our last days in Thailand...
Last time we left off we had just arrived on the beach in Koh Samet which was lovely. For the first couple of days we just chilled out catching some rays then havin a few beers in the bars along the beach - found our usual 2 4 1 cocktails (we're getting good at searching out the bargains!) On Tuesday we hired a quad for the day and nipped around the island - its only 4 miles long & 2 miles wide so we covered pretty much all of it! Found a lookout point on the cliffs where we went swimming & watched the sunset. Some of the roads were pretty rough so it was lots of fun (if a little scary at first!) At one point we got stuck in a
dip going up a steep hill so we had to throttle it and popped a wheely heading to the bushes but managed to wack it hard left in mid flight to safety!!! Hehe! Most dangerous driver of the day goes to Alexis who left his quad in reverse and went crashing into the side mound nearly goin over the cliff!! (Dont worry, not everythin we do over here is so dangerous!!)
Wednesday was more chilled out as we went on a boat trip round the island which was organised for us. Typical Thailand style we had to wade thru the sea at chest hight with our bags above our heads & heave ourselves onboard! We then tried to sunbathe which was quite difficult as there was a cover over the boat?! And as we started to chill out we were advised to spread the weight on the boat as we were sinking on one side!!! We went swimming & snorkeling off the boat which was cool - not that many fish tho! In the afternoon it was time for some fishing upon which we were presented with our top of the range fishing rod - a plastic bottle with
line wrapped around!! Surprisingly we didnt catch anythin although a few people did & they were just put in a bucket to suffocate slowly - so cruel so we tried to set them free - succeeded with one but the other was too far gone and it ended up a floater!! To end the trip was stopped at a Fish Farm which was strange - we had to walk across a floating grid made up of planks of dodgy wood with about 40 people on there at once so it was very rockabilly - was more of who could keep their balance than looking at the fish!!! Again we go back to the Thai way of things, the 2 plank wide routes surrounded the tanks housing the sharks and the 5 plank wide had little tropical fish!!!! Think you prob get the message that Thailand isnt very safety concious!!
Other than that we just chilled out, got a Thai massage which was lovely. Met some more local bartenders, including T (aka Forrest Gump) who had THE strangest accent ever! We left for Bangkok on Sat and did some last minute shoppin & then went for a few farewell drinks
to say bye to everyone we met. Got up early yesterday and went to see the Golden Budda (yes Dad, we finally made it!) which was cool - crazy that its solid gold - must be worth an absolute fortune! We also saw the Reclining Budda which is huge! Its so mad how much money must be spent on the temples etc all over Thailand & theres still so much poverty.
So, thats bout all for now...just a quick round up of Thailand to finish...
1. Lots and lots of gold & sparkles...
2. No regard for Health and Safety in any shape or form...
3. Completely crazy tuk-tuk drivers...
4. Many a ladyboy & a few gays taking a liking to Chris...
5. The occasional smell of what can only be descibed as pure poo from the streets...yum!!!
...but thats why we loved it!
In Brisbane now for 4 nights then fly up to Airlie Beach to go round the Whitsunday Islands for approx 3 days then getting the bus back to Sydney for Christmas - not sure where we are stopppin along the way yet! Will update again
soon. Miss you all lots, esp hearin Christmas songs in the airport (altho cant belive its December already!) Lots and lots of love & hugs xxx
Ps: We have more pics but havent got the camera lead so will load then up another time! xxx
