Where's my porridge?
Table and chairs at the Science Museum, built from perspective of a 3yr old Mon 15th Oct:
Headed into the city for the day. We headed for the Science Museum (more Laz's taste than mine but happy to give it a go) but couldn't actually fine it, someone had moved it! We wandered down to the Botanic Gardens but it was more like your average park, Sydney much better than Brisbane on that one. Stopped for some brekkie at the cafe tho, myself going for the healthy skinny choc milk my blueberry muffin, fat boy fat hitting the blueberry pancakes topped with maple syrup n full fat strawberry milk.... glad to see my influences rubbing off!!!!
Found the tourist information and lol (for mum & dad - laugh out loud!) they had actually moved it! We spent the afternoon playing on the various experiment and it was surprisingly fun.
Having passes the best part of the day we walked back to our new hostel, the Yellow Submarine where we'd left our car the previous night, picked up the car, drove back to Tin Billy's to colect our rucksacks and then did some food shopping.
we had a 3 bed dorm sharing with a cool chich called Fim, vwery hippy but very cool too. She had
Look at his posture!!!
Still at the Science Museum a major car crash and has a bionic leg so we were able to compare scars, mine was definitely the neatest!
Fim had come from doing WA so gave us the low down on where to go and where to stay when we head over there in Jan.
Still trying to catchup on some sleep, got a reasonably early night, tho now I had to compete with both Fim and Laz snoring ;-( not fair!
Tues 16th Oct:
Got up early and went for a run, stupidly hot but so scenic on the southbank. Knee not feeling great but trying to push through it. Got back and downed my much needed bottle of Powerade, too hot for running at that time of the morning.
Headed to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Obviously lots of Koalas, would be a rubbish sanctuary without them! Got to hold one, Kakadu, who was surprisingly heavy. They're permanently high on eucalyptus so no wonder they sleep for up to 19hrs a day and then only wake to eat, the perfect career for Laz....
Moved onto the Kangaroo Reserve, bought a bag of food then just wander around feeding them. It ws a bit daunting at
first and once I managed to bend my knee it was all good! Good experience and good day for photos.
Weds 17th Oct:
Managed another run this morning, still feels too hot but knee slightly better. Decided to take a trip to Mt Coot-tha lookout and do some walking, bringing Fim along for the ride. Some amazing views of Brisbane from the lookout. Took a walk along the trail through the forest, nothing overly strenuous but enough ups, downs and steps to work up a sweat. There was meant to be Aboriginal Art along the way, but it was a joke, having been painted on recently and Adam and Amelia have produced better work!
We stopped for lunch and then tried looking for the waterfall, realising that we'd had lunch right by it! With no water on it, it wasn't overly impressive, so headed back to the car (5km in total)
Onto the planetarium where we saw a whole load of planet info (big shock there!) Went to the auditorium to watch life as an astronaut, the training, being in space and finally the Brisbane stars. Sat back in the seats to relax and watch and felt bit motion
sick but it passed as film went on. Good to get some fresh air at end though.
Back to hostel to take advantage of the grill, yep you guessed it, macaroni cheese night!
Thurs 18th Oct:
With Laz having a lie in I headed Brisbane Forest Park, D'Aguilar Range. I took the Araucaria Trail (5km)around Enoggera Reservoir. Was very peaceful and serene and came across some wild turkeys and some gorgeous flowers on the water.
I then headed further into the range, stopping at McAfee's Lookout and Jolly's Lookout, again, awespme views!
Headed to the library in the afternoon, they have an hours free internet access available at its fully air conned! Managed to do some blog stuff but wouldn't allow you to upload any photos, hence the delay in blog entries.
Fri 19th Oct.
Some of you will have been lucky enough to hear all about my mobile trauma and no longer being able to use my UK number headed into the city to purchase an Ozzie sim card. Wandered around the shops and have now started my ozzie thong collection, not quite able to throw away the UK 1's just yet!
Such relief to have my
Meet Kakadu
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary mobile back online, spent several hours catching up with the gossip at home.
Sat 20th Oct.
We had a very chilled day, wandering into the library for more internet access but generally taking it easy.
Headed for an early night as needed to be up at 4am for the big game, come on England!!!!!
Sun 21st Oct.
Rise and shine nice and early for a casual stroll into the city for the Rugby Cup Final. Bless Fim, suffering with tonsillitus and still got up at 4am to do our face paint. Thanks to Didge and Nige for the wake up call/txt but I'd already been awake for an hour, too excited to sleep!
Cheated and drove into city and had slight trauma when pub we were planning to watch it in, can't let anyone in after 3am! Headed up the high street and found an outside pub. They couldn't sell alcohol so red bull it was! Met up with Charlie & Lou and settled down to watch the game. I thought the boys put up a good fight but it wasn't to be. Unlucky boys, I'm still prpoud of you for making it to the final!
After 3
How cool!
Kangaroo Reserve at the Sanctuary cans of red bull, headed back to hostel and didn't really know what to do with myself for the rest of the day.
The hostel lays on a free meal on a SUnday evening so sat around waiting for that. Everyone pitches in either prepping food or clearing up, good team effort (mainly with the eating!).
Powered through remainder of the evening doing not much and finally got to bed for so much needed sleep.
