me and the Doc
the man the legend hello again and a warm welcome to the latest update on my attempt at world travel/domination. as usual ive been very lazy in updating my blog soas i have plenty to say as ive been a busy little boy thse pasat few weeks. strap yourself in and here goes.
at our last conversation my self and Leah were just leaving Sydney and i bid a sad farewell to the city that had been my home for four months. after taking the overnight bus down to Melbourne which took fully twelve hours, and for future reference was about as comfortable as an evening with Arsene Wenger, we arrived to meet up with the rest of the gang and begin the travelling round Oz
We stayed in St Kilda just outside the city and spent several great days on the beach by day and drinking it up by night in the multitude of beachside bars and clubson offer. the highlight for me though was doing the Neighbours tour which took you to Ramsey Street and the other areas used for the filming, i also got to meet a personal hero of mine the man the legend Dr Karl Kennedy and as you can
Centurion
me and gaz decided to do 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes, seemed like a good idea at the time see from the photos i was very happy to meet a living legend. the photo does give the impression that hes quite small but in fact im just a lanky monster who dwarves most people.
We'd all made the decision that we were going to spend only a short time in Melbourne before hiring some cars and driving the Great Ocean Road up to Adelaide. so we spent three days cruising the coastal highways of oz, me and leah in our Mitsubishi Lancer and Gaz josh and sal in their corolla. it was a great trip and certainly better than doing a guided tour and i certainly was happy to be hammering it round the twisty coastal roads and pretending to be colin mcrae.
After the road trip we eventually arrived in Adelaide and looked to book a trip up to Alice Springs to do the whole Uluru/Ayers rock experience. of course the first job was to go out and explore the Adelaide nightlife so it was on with the drinking trousersand off to the nearest bar. we all had an entertaining evening before crawling back to our hostel at bout 4am, yet another sucessfull night. after a day spent
the end
upon completion, its not a hug its just neither of us can stand without holding onto something recovering from our drinking exertions we had a 19hour train ride up to Alice springs which sounded daunting but actually turned out pretty decent as you had big comfortable seats and a decent buffet car that certainly kept me happy. because of all this the trip went very quickly and before i knew it we were in Alice which turned out to have two very defining characteristics. Heat and the worlds most frustrating and pointless creature the fly.
as we arrived the temp was nudging 40 degrees and the flies were just constantly in your face and annoying everyone. the result being you have to constantly swat them away which became a constant of our time there. but anyway annoying flying b******s aside we had booked on to a three day tour that promised camping out under the stars, a visit to Uluru and lots of hiking around the beautiful scenery. yes thats right we would be doing lots of long arduous hikes in 40 degree heat, Gary in particular was delighted by this thought.
However i must admit the three days we spent in the bush was enjoyable and entertaining as we were in a group of 22 and
Sausage Gully
We just liked the name we all had a laugh and a drink round the campfire in the evening. i doubt i would go back again as you do see everything in that three day period and the heat and flies are unrelenting but as you can see from the photos the benefits are there as well.
So we finished Alice Spring and looked to the next leg of our epic voyage. sadly this proved very difficult as our original intention of driving to Cairns was scuppered by the fact we couldnt find a hire car company that wanted a car taken to the coast. Bugger. so at that point it looked like we may have to remain in Alice a bit longer, Gaz on hearing this nearly fainted and eventually we decided our only option was to fly out to Brisbane and begin the next leg from there
So friend that is why you find me in Brisbane at the mo nursing a slight hangover after returninmg at 6am after the now traditional 'first night in a new city lets get on the beers' evening.
sadly it is now just myself Gary and Josh as Sal, Leah and Ricky flew to Perth in search
the twelve apostles
despite the stunning view we still pose like idiots of work and adventure on the West Coast. me and the boys hve just booked a combined Fraser island 4x4 trek and Whitsunday sailing trip that leaves tomorrow so that is where our next adventure lies
I will be back in contact after that and if you dont hear from me il have either been eaten by a dingo or sunk the boat. i the meantime hope all is well with you all and enjoy the photos
