Chinatown in Fortitude Valley
Today we woke up around 9:30 after a fairly long sleep. We grabbed breakfast and got changed. After that we phoned some jobs and got an interview with a labour/landscape agency for monday. After that we got our stuff together and went out to check out this area of the city called Southbank. This area is just across the river from our hostel and goes all the way to the southern tip of the central business district. The are was very green with gardens, grass land and little rainforest spots throughout. Because it was Saturday there was also a market area set up. This was a nice place to walk through to escape the urban lifestype for a few hours. We got back from this just after 12 and grabbed lunch. After that we watched some sports on tv and went on the computers. We had an early dinner because our plans that night. After dinner we got our backpacks together and headed out. We wanted to check out an area of Brisbane called Fortitude Valley. In "the valley" there was also chinatown. To get there we had to walk across the top of downtown which was about 5 km. Fortitude valley is supposed to be the best bar/club area in Brisbane, but when we got there around 8 O'Clock it was way less then what we expected. There were many bars and boutique stores but the bars didnt seem very fancy which was what I expected. The area was also only about half a kilometre long. Once we had walked through that we went up one road to see if there were more places on another parallel street. There wasnt, luckly a block in the direction of our hostel was chinatown. That is a little nice calling it a "town" as it was really one of those streets which cars arn't allowed to drive on. On the other hand it was very nice and the food looked really good. After we had checked out the area we headed back to the hostel. On the way back we still realized the night was young. Because of this we decided we would go to a movie. I had been reading the newspaper earlier in the day and it had said that there was a cinema in Southbank, the area just southwest of our hostel. We went to the cinema and was very impressed. Tickets were $5.70 which is less than half of Silvercity in Canada and the candy/food was also cheaper. We choose to go to jumper. Australia is about two to three weeks behind in movie release dates. When we got into the cinema we were impressed again. The chairs were nice red chairs with apolstered arm rests. Reminded me more of a Lazy Boy then the cinema chairs I've been exposed to in Canada. After the movie it was 16 or 17 degrees which is kinda chilly considering we were in flip flops and shorts/t-shirt. Because I was cold I ended up walking pretty fast home and went straight to sleep
