This is my attempt at carving some waves. As you can see I'm to busy laughing at the guy who's taking my picture. He was yelling "Look up, no up, no up, fine smile" Hey Everyone
Alright I have bad news, these damn public computers are to slow to upload pictures which is why Becca's page does not have any pictures either right now. But it's just one more week until I am in Perth and there will be pictures galore.
In the meantime you'll just have to settle for my excellent verbal descriptive skills. Really that consists of the words hot, amazing, awesome and impossible to describe. But I'll do my best. So we just got back from our sailing trip around the Whitsunday islands. The weather was gorgeous, the water was gorgeous, the snorkelling was gorgeous, in a nutshell it was gorgeous. We travelled on a cadamaran (or something spelt like that) with around 50 other people and stayed on an island resort at night. I almost didn't come back. The only downfall was the 6 am wake-up call to get on the boat, but a nice nap on the deck was enough to get us through the rest of the day. We ended up travelling with five swedish girls, Jenny, Jennifer, Emelie, Ebba and Sanna, we met from fraser island and the lone swedish boy, Philip renamed "The Duke" on our boat, that was travelling with them. These girls were awesome so much fun and can drink almost any guy i've met under the table. Rasmus and Troels the two Danish guys from our Fraser island trip were also at the resort with us although they were on the other boat during the day. Tom, one of the English blokes from Fraser was also on our boat, he was our surrogate little brother. We've now spent the last week with those guys and it was sad this morning when we all had to say good-bye. The "Flying dingos" have left Airlie Beach. Alright anyways here goes my best shot at describing our trip around the Whitsunday islands. There's about 1800 islands in the Whitsundays, we stopped at about four of them and probably saw less than a quarter. To put it mildly, the group is huge. We are not talking small islands either boys and girls, some of them have resorts, some of them have beaches that stretch for miles, and most of them look like something out of the movies, with small mountains covered in greenery. One island for the rich requires you to pay 2 million dollars for land, just the land, to build a house on and then you have to give it back in 50 years, and forego the house on it!! These are the people who take private jets to their island home or casually sail over on their milllion dollar yachts. I petitioned for a stopover so I could find a husband but alas we'll have to meet somewhere else I suppose. So I believe it was just about this time on our trip that the waters got a little rough, and there were a few people who could no longer hold on the their breakfast, luckily I was not one of them but I was damn close, for those of you planning on taking this trip in the future, be smart, bring along some sea-sick pills just in case. Anyways we'll carry on with our first stop on our maiden voyage to Whitehaven beach. Supposedly the fourth most beautiful beach in the world, I'm going to have to say that personally, it tops my list. The sand was so fine you sank into it when you walked kinda like warm snow. And for some reason that was explained to me which I know forget, the sand never gets hot. And the water was just cool enough to be refreshing. Seriously, I was working on building my house out of palm tree leaves when they told me I had to go. The only downside was that it is jelly fish season, so you have to wear these full body stinger suits everytime you go in the water. Picture a beach full of 50 5-6 feet tall four year olds in full length pajamas and you'll get an idea of what we all looked like. I'm pretty sure we got a few pictures of us so you can all laugh your asses off, but it's better than being sent to the hospital because a jelly fish the size of a thumb nail got mad at you and gave you the most poisonous sting of your life. Yeah that's right the most poisonous jellyfish are the ones you can't see, talk about shitty luck. So after our all to brief stay on my favourite beach we sailed over to one part of the Great Barrier Reef. Now I have been snorkelling a few times before and let me tell you one thing, there is a very good reason it is called the "Great" Barrier Reef. The water is overrun with fish and I'll quote Becca on this one "You feel like you're swimming in a giant aquarium". It was unreal. We took some underwater photos, and then it was time to head back to the resort. Oh right the resort I forgot to talk about the first night on the resort. The very first day we went sailing we just went straight to the resort which took around 2 hours. The resort was nice, nothing amazing except the one bartender named "Tash" who gave us deals on all our drinks. The pool was great, very large and nice and refreshing. And after dinner we played drinking games, I mean all of us. For one of them, you had to chug down a beer and switch tops with the person next to you. Tom and Rasmus, both ended up in girls tank tops. You'll definitely be seeing those pictures soon. The last nite we played some more drinking games and then had some Karaoke. Tom gave us his best with his song "Sittin on the Dock by the River" or something like that. He was good, Michael Buble watch out. Alright so that brings us to our last day on the boat, we sailed to a spot on the Great Barrier Reef and went snorkelling for the second time. We all met a massive fish named Elvis who much have been easily the size of a small dolphin. One girl even held onto him and rode along side him like he was a dolpin. Then we cruised back to dry land. I absolutely love sailing, seriously, I need to find that husband of mine from the rich island. Alright well that brings us back up to today. I skipped the beginning or our trip in Airlie but it was basically partying with Heather and Lauren (the two girls from Canada who seem to be following us up the coast) and their friend Kelsey and lounging along side the lagoon during the day.
I also just wanted to let everyone who's been e-mailing me know that I love receiving your e-mails and I am doing my best to respond. I miss you all and just receiving little messages makes me feel connected. Alright that's all for now.
Cheers Kristen
P.S To all those drinking at home next time you do a cheers say "Skol" it's Danish for Cheers.

soooooooooo jealous!
Hello my Kristen, Sorry it's taken me a while to leave a comment on your blog, i have been studying like a beast! However, i have been reading them in my "spare time" (otherwise known as 'procrastination') and I LOVE hearing about all of your adventures! The only part that i don't love is the fact that i'm not there :(. But...i WILL be there on the next trip...AKA trip to Europe! But now i want to go to Australia too....i guess i'll have to do that another time, since you and Becca have already been! DAMN YOU! haha Not too much has been going on here, except for good old studying at Queen's...ohhhh man...not a good time AT ALL! Reading all of these blogs has inspired me to try to go on exchange at some point next year. What do i do? Who do i talk to? Is this decision too late? HELP! HELP! lol OH - the only exciting news in my life at the moment is that there are more boys than i can count! That's right....while you're searching for a husband in Australia, I'm trying to fight boys off with a stick here in Canada! (well...that's a bit of an exaggeration! lol) oh - and one of them happens to be a frosh! HAHAH (this is a story that you will have to hear in person or via email, as my pedophile adventure is not up for public display! haha) Anyway..i think that's it for now. I miss you soooooooo much! Post again soon! Oh - and have a great valentine's day with a cute Aussie boy! Love, Ashley
