Again warm but overcast. Went into Proserpine again and did the tour of the sugar mill. Having seen so much cane growing it was interesting to see how it is turned into sugar. We were the only two on the tour today so got lots of attention from the tour guide. Had to wear long pants, closed shoes, goggles, hair net, hard hat and ear plugs. Not the best fashion look!! Was very noisy and rather smelly but worthwhile.

The office building is an original old house from the area. The big green storage container is for bagasse which is what is left after the cane is crushed. This is then used to heat the boiler furnace along with several other uses.

Each of the bins of cane coming into the mill weighs about 10 tonne.

The end product. The yellow ‘river’ is raw sugar ready for export.
