Day 9 7/8/2009 Kulgera to Ayres Rock (Uluru)
Left Kulgera late today as we needed to do some washing and an old bich, who was staying in camp that day, raced me to the laundry and I lost - not happy Jan!!! I was even crankier when I found she was staying on for an other day. One good thing did come out of it we sorted our gear and are thinking of sending some home that we do not use.
The road today was all bitumen what a nice change. We stopped at Curtin Springs for lunch under the shade of a tree and had a bit of a chat to an Emu that was wondering around free. Must be a pet he was to tame not to be. Curtin Springs is a cattle station which makes money on the side by offering accommodation, fuel, mechanical repairs and some food and drink. Non powered sites were free - this you do not very often see. Fuel $1.70 per litre
As we came closer to Ayres Rock or mobiles started going off - you do not realise how much you miss them until you do not have them! This gave us

Sittin on the Canopy having a coupleof Rums as the sun sets on the rock.
a chance to ring the family and answer any messages that had been left.
We drove through the resort at Yulara to check out the camping and then without booking went straight out to “The Rock”. The National Park fees were $25 for a 3 day pass. Brian’s comments were “That is one huge friggen rock!”
We decided to book a motel room if we could get one so that we could see the sunset and get up early for the sunrise. We looked like a couple of yobbos at the sunset because we sat up on top of the canopy with our Rum & cokes and some food to nibble on - fantastic sunset! We were surprised at all the nationalities that were around and the viewing area was packed.
We dined on cheese & oysters and drank form the mini bar while we attempted to catch up on the blog page. Brian fell asleep and I stayed up to 2.30am - what a big mistake this turned out to be!
