Bitter springs
Entry point for Bitter springs Arrived in Mataranka and settled into a small C/P only minutes from Bitter Springs thermal waters about 3 ks from Mataranka and situated in the Elsey National Park,very welcoming staff who took time to advise us of the local attractions.The author Jeannie Gunn published an autobiographical novel , We of the Never Never which was about her life on Elsey Station,about which a film was made.Mataranka now claims to be the capitol of Never Never Land and a festival is held every year.
Walked down to the thermal springs from the camp about a 5 minute stroll and joined a few other people there in the flowing spring with a temp of 32deg, very relaxing and purposed to be therapeutic.Noodles (floating devices ) can be hired from the camp office but most people seem to have their own, the idea being to float down the spring with the flow of the current,very gentle and get out at a bridge and walk back to the entry point.
Went to Mataranka hot springs today a bit different to Bitter Springs with a concrete pool being formed I suppose to help prevent erosion still very nice.Entry is via a C/P which calls

Having floated down the spring this is the exit point itself the homestead after the famous novel we of the Never Never. there is a replica of the original homestead alongside the C/P and it's free to roam around and imagine what life must have been like in those days.
In the center of Mataranka stands a huge termite mound on which has been carved a picture of a bulls head,a plaque gives information about how termite mounds
