The further south we are heading, the colder it is getting. Oh well I guess it is winter. We seem to get up early and still can't leave before 8 am. We are off to Kulgera caravan park. We stayed there on the way up north so I guess its a reality check that we are on our way home. The days are still fairly nice but the nights are getting a bit chilly. As our car has been playing up again we are driving slower than Jen & Nat who have no trouble doing the speed limit. This does increase our time driving with not as much free time as our travel partners. Arriving at Kulgera and booking into the park we were greeted at the park entrance by Jen who was in a very agitated state asking us if we had any tape. Not sure what was going on we said yes but had to get into the park and unhook the van before we could find it. Seems like they had a huge mishap trying to set up the camper and ripped a ruddy great hole in the tent. Lucky for them we had
tape, fishing line and large sewing needles. After about an hour of fiddling around fixing the hole we could then set up the van. Jen and I were looking forward to a nice shower at the caravan park as they were renovating them a few weeks ago. Jen checked it out and said its all done so off I went with my towel etc. only to find the showers were NOT finished. Only one had 2 doors and it was being used. 2 had half a door and 1 had none. Guess I will take one with half a door. No hooks to hang clothes, just dump them on the floor. I guess it will be great when finished but really its been nearly 8 weeks since we were here. That's where the saying comes from....they work slow in the country. We had tea at the Kulgera pub and once again it was a great meal. We can highly recommend it there. Leaving Monday we headed for the free camp Matheson's Bore. We haven't done much free camping as its a bit hard for Jen & Nat without heating/cooling in the camper.
Matheson's Bore is a great place to
stay for the night. Off the main highway which is a bonus and a large area so you are not sitting on top of each other. We had stopped along the way and collected some wood so we were looking forward to a fire tonight. Back to the flies but at least there are no mozzies. Sitting down having a drink I looked up to be confronted by a huge whirly whirly. It was on me before I could do anything besides cover my face. Sure gave Nat a laugh when he saw my face and hair covered in dirt. Not much animal life out here but we did see a mouse and a couple of foxes at night. The campfire was fabulous and the next morning we cooked our toast over the coals. It sure tastes different. Time to pack up and head off to Coober Pedy.
