Wednesday 1st October i flew from Cairns to Darwin was cool but bit weird to be leaving Cairns after 8 months in that area and in Queensland.
I flew with Jetstar to Darwin at 1pm, was good to be flying and finally travelling again, sat next to a french guy on the plane who had similar travel/work plans to me so we got chatting. Toni picked me up afrom the airport and took me and him to Chillis hostel. I stayed at Chillis for 2 nights and looked about Darwin.
Darwin was extremely hot like 35 and boiling in the midday sun, the centre of the town is not very big and mainly consists of one main street....Mitchell St. it reminds me of a party town in spain with all bars and restaurants down it, also in the town there is the esplande, port and botanic gardens but apart from that and millions of building sites there isn't much else. It's okay but nothing too nice here, no lagoon like cairns and not as big or as touristy, but more of a working hub.
At the weekend i went on a 3 day/2 night tour out to Litchfield
National Park and Kakadu World Heritage National Park!!!!!!
Litchfield National Park is really nice not as big as Kakadu and more green and more waterfalls at this time of year. Went to 4 different waterfalls and saw the termite mounds, all very cool just so so so hot and lots fo flies due to the heat!!!!! Awesome scenery and places to see though.
Kakadu National Park is absoloutely massive makes you realise how big this country is!!!!! 20,000 sqkm i think its huge!!!!!!!! It was so so so hot out here in the park about 40 degrees and millions of flies. We spent two nights camping here the first night just literall in a swag and the second under the inner lining of a tent to protect from mozes. Was fun to camp out under the stars first time ive properly done this and in oz. In kakadu we went on crocodile cruis and literally cruised down a river full of crocs in a boat and could see them on the rive banks pretty mental these animals are daaaaaangerous!!!!!! we went to nourlangie rock art and viewing point which had totally unreal views, we camped near jim jim
and twin falls, we had to 4wd down a long bumpy mad track to get to jim jim falls and twin falls. To get to jim jim falls swimming hole we had to climb over massive rocks etc which took about half an hour in the boiling sun but was worth it to swim in the swimming hole. Twin falls was a bit more relaxed we got a boat along the river which also may have had crocs in so no swimming here and then had a shorter climb over the rocks to get to the amzing secluded beach at twin falls. We had to drive miles and miles or km's and km's to get back out of the park and back to darwin on the last day and on the way we stopped at a lake where there was about a billion different birds so perfect for bird watchers!!!!!
Overall these two national parks were awesome to see, good to see more of the real oz and the outback and to get out of the city, also pretty neat as this is all mainly aboriginal land and sacred. Was a great trip good to be back in the
backpacking touring world!!!!!!!
Plus meant to say i was really lucky had a great group for the tour, my tour guide was a 26 year old aussie girl from birth who was a dude and the group was good, few germans, a really sweet old french couple, 2 very funny belgiums, an english guy who knows my friend kelly dabin which is weird, an american girl and two taiwanese people, was a good mix and much fun.
After this great weekend in the parks i went back to darwin and spent 3 more nights in chillis and in town. Managed to sort out a job on a cattle station!!!!!
So i am now heading across the Kimberly to a place called Fitzroy Crossing to start a job as a cook on a cattle station which will count to my second year visa and is pretty good pay with all food and accomodation included so we will see hw this goes........
