We've been playing tourists so not too much to report!

In Darwin we took tours, saw sights and bought some prawns ($20 for 3 1/2 kilos - FOUR meals)

From Darwin we headed east into Kakadu. (Now need a $25 permit to go there) Whilst there we took a tour into Arnhem Land and learned some "aboriginal stuff". Took a sunset cruise on some lagoons off the South Alligator River. Saw several BIG crocodiles. From there we headed south, but our plan to go back to Alice changed and we are now leaving from Darwin.

Do you know the difference between a kangaroo and a wallaby? The Wallabies play rugby and the Kangaroos play league! In truth the kangaroo has a "fixed" bone at the base of its tail which means it can't put its arse on the ground, while the wallaby can. Thought you'ld like to know.

Anyway we had a couple of good days at Mataranka which has great hot pools, lots of pionneer stories and scenery. Travelled to Daly Waters Pub, which is famous for its dinner and show. Had some singing at first and then a comedian, and he was good. In Australian fashion he took the mickey out of every class of person there. Good time was had by all.

On the main road north to arwin, we reckon that caravans outnumber all other types of road transport by about 10 : 1 if you include campervans and camping trailers. Where do they all go? Also some amazing combinations: Bus with trailer with car on and bikes on back of car; Cars, caravans and boats on top very common, as are the car, caravan and bike combination. There's a rig for every desire and then some. Every budget too.

We are now at Katherine heading north again to Darwin where we'll put the car and van away for a month and pick this blog up again in August

Cheers

Great photos / Are you going back to Auckland for a month?
Hi Patti & Don, We have just returned from Europe, business in Germany for Tony, then on to Paris for a few days to catch up with Parisian family then on to Manchester to meet up with Gill upon arrival from Perth. We went over for Gills brothers 60 th, hid in the local village of Prestbury for a few days prior to the party, had a great holiday for three weeks, half in the centre & half Southern UK. Had a half day private tour, given by the PA of the Commander of the HMS Victory ( Gills organised to donate a medal to the Victory a few years ago, so receives special attention! You seem to be having a wonderful trip and are getting ever closer to crossing the Top in order to head South in our direction. Are you going to Auckland for a month, or staying in Darwin to eat Prawns? I may be in Auckland August or September, any plans to return? Keep up the wonderful communication. Love Tony & Gill
