our house...
...in the middle of our street! Ok, so Ive been in Alice about 2 months now… think I have a lot of catching up to do!!
We’ve moved into a house, its owned by Toddy’s, one of the hostels here so we share rooms but its a real house with carpet and everything!!! It has 3 bedrooms but each bedroom has bunk beds in it! We do have a massive garden though, and a swimming pool!!! Woooo!! Me and Gem share a room with Emilie, another girl we work with, and Shirley. And we also live with Eddie, an old hippy man, mel, an English girl, Claire, Julie and John.. 3 doctors (very useful!) and Grant, they’re all pretty cool!
We’ve had loads of fun since we moved here, ive quit my job at the Rock tour, mostly due to the owners (absolute losers!!) ;-) and so its really nice having the days off and just working in the evening.
On my last day, one of my workmates bought in a 3 week old rotwiller puppy, so he kept me occupied for most of the day!!! You can see by the photos, he’s a bit of a cutie!!
Ive bought a bike,
since we moved, its too far to walk and riding saves on the taxi money!! I got a new bike but decided to relive my childhood dream, and I bought streamers to go on the handle bars, a pink horn and ‘spokies’, it looks so cool (in my eyes) everyone I ride past seems to laugh at me though… cant think why!?!?!
Ok, so some cool things I have done….
I went to a “Hunging” with all my work mates, which is a traditional New Zealand way of cooking, the food is all buried under the ground with hot rocks and left there for hours, it was held at the hospital and I went with all of my work mates. To be fair the food was a bit like dropping a sandwich on the beach and eating it! slightly gritty, but it was nice. It was held in the grounds of the hospital and there was a massive empty swimming pool out the back which we all had fun in! Me and Nes spent ages running up and down the walls!! After the party I went with Chris to the Rock bar which was fun, and ended up
with Ash (my gay boss from the Diplomat) at the casino!!!
4 days before Gem left to go to Sydney we both had days off work and had some serious fun!! We went to Young Guns, which is a special day at the races just for young people. I had to work from half 5 in the morning till 1 o clock but then I came straight home to get ready, I bought a new dress and we had some mates round, for pre-race drinks, and then headed to the course, its pretty small in comparison to other races, but they had an awesome rock band and we all hit the town afterwards.
We went out one night, and Bec, my friend here from day one in Alice, was kipping on our lounge floor. Me and gem thought it’d be fun, for some reason, to decorate her when we got home one night!! We put every possible article in the lounge onto her, followed by the table and chairs!!
Me and Grant (one of my housemates) went food shopping one morning and bought coconuts, we ate them the next day (and made wine cocktails out of them in
the evening!!) lovely!!
It was Johns birthday last week, the day Gem left Alice Springs, and we had a bit of a house party, we had a big barbeque and played drinking games (it was full of doctors, I think I was the only one not wearing glasses!!)
But it ended up with us all jumping in the swimming pool (which was absolutely FREEZING!!) but it was fun!!
The weather here has gone from being boiling all the time, day and night, to being freezing at night time. Its still boiling in the day but defiantly hat, scarf and glove weather at night! Well, its probably only about 12 degrees but it feels soooo cold! God knows what ill be like when I have to brave the English weather again!!!
Me and Shirley worked at the races on bank holiday Monday, (I swear they have bank holidays every other weekend!… England could do with learning or two from them!!) we worked in the corporate tent so it was full of posh people and all we had to do was serve bottles of wine!! For about an hour at the end I got moved to the pavilion, where all
the alcohol was free and it was crazy, I must have opened 50,000 bottles of 4 X beer!!
They have also opened a new nightclub, the “Juicy Rump” at the casino. I got home from work on its opening night at about 11 pm and was told by my house mates I had 5 minutes to get ready before the taxi came! Its an awesome place, not a nightclub like we’re used to at home, but an outside bar, with a dance floor! But I think just about every single person I know in Alice was there! It was brill!
My housemates have all changed now. Two new English girls have moved in, Lara and Morgan and they are awesome, Shirley is still here as well so we’ve got a quality house!!
We all went out one Friday night and it was amazing fun, we didn’t get to bed till 8am!!!
Ive also seen a bit more of Alice Springs, me and Taylor went up to Anzac hill and watched the sunset (there was actually a sun set this time!!) we had a few beers and it was pretty cool!
And me and Shirley went to the
reptile centre, the place itself was pretty small but we were there for the show where we all sat round in a circle and got to hold loads of different lizards, the ultimate part was when they draped a 10ft olive python round my neck!!! It was really heavy and a bit nosey poking itself around my eyes and neck!! But it felt awesome!! (maybe a good choice for a new pet!!?)
My last bit of exciting news is that I’m learning to play the didgeridoo!!!! I know im not musically talented at all but while everyone else was huffing and puffing into the didge, I made the proper noise straight away!! I decided to roll with it and bought one, along with the book and cd, at the moment im just perfecting circular breathing, its pretty hard to breathe in through your nose whilst breathing out through your mouth but im almost there!
We went to a party the other night and it turned into a massive jam session, everyone playing bongo’s, didgeridoos, and guitars around the camp fire. Its pretty lucky that the 3 top didge players in Australia are here in Alice so they are giving
me some pointers!
So life in Alice is still great! I feel so settled here its going to be very hard to leave!!
Love and miss you all x x x x
By the way, these photos are taken with my new, nice, shiny camera!! Wahoo!!
