So you would think that in our 3 years in Sydney we would have seen quite a bit of NSW and the east coast...well, no 😊 But we still managed to see quite a bit....
Hunter Valley (August/Oct 2010, Nov 2011...and I swear there was another time in early 2011...)
We originally went here for our anniversary in April 2010, but this became favourite place with Jeremy and Laura, as they loved going there too, and had a little cottage that they always rented out. It was a chalet in the middle of the bush with a spa on the balcony!! It was normally a spare of the moment decision to go, but it was always a welcome two night break from the city where we just relaxed. The first couple of trips we all fit into one car (just us and x
zavier), but the next couple of times there was 2 (or even 3!) cars, but the trips always involved leaving before 8am, a stop over in Cessnock Coles to stock up on supplies (and buy me a Mother) 😊 We would then head to putt putt and the driving range at the Hunter Valley Gardens,
before checking in around lunchtime. Went there for one night as well, but with the drive and work the next day it wasn't quite as relaxing - but still good to get away!!
Kincumber (Central Coast) July 2010 - We almost didn't make it here! We were heading off after the morning, shift, but the maverick didn't start (a common occurrence when we weren't driving it much at all), so we had to call the NRMA (NSW's version of RAC) to come and start the car. So we were on the road a lot later then planned and so didn't get the the Central Coast till around 6:30...only just had time to find a motel and get ready...and then head to Li
zottes to see Diesel!!!! It was so so good!! Brian Li
zotte is his brother, and this was his restaurant - it is quite a famous place for artists to come and play. We were there for the dinner, but bought our tickets too late to get an actual table, so we were sat at the back on a bar overlooking the dinner area and stage to eat, and then moved to bar stools to watch Diesel
play. Loooooved it! 😊 We stayed the night in Kincumber, then headed back early the next day for work.
Gold Coast Sept 2010 - The original plan was to go to Melbourne for The Footy Show Grand Final (we even bought the tickets for the show!) but then Steve couldn't get the night off work. So instead we decided to head to the Gold Coast for the night! We took the first flight on the Tuesday morning, and then left 8am Wednesday morning to get back to Sydney in time for work. Such a quick trip but so much fun! Stayed in Surfers Paradise, and just wandered around that general area for the day, and then had dinner in Broadbeach with Laurie (from Contiki) and her man Dane. It was raining when we originally arrived there, so slightly annoying for a hot beach suburb! But it quickly became hot and humid (to the point where I had to buy a maxi dress cos I got too hot in my jeans!). A highlight was definitely Infinity - an indoor sort of ma
ze, but with lights, lasers and strobe lights...It was so exciting to walk through! One
of those things that you know you are walking on a mirror reflecting the lights around you, but you still feel like you are actually walking on air with the stars around you.
Canberra April 2011 - This was literally a day trip to Canberra, as we were trying to continue on the tradition of celebrating our anniversary in a different state (unfortunately this is the year it ended - we just couldn't make QLD or NT in 2012...). We hired a car, and left bright and early in the morning, arriving in Canberrra before lunch. We then did a couple of touristy things (like hiring bikes to ride around the lake!) 😊 before having a small dinner and driving back to Sydney. It was totally silly but lots of fun 😊
Blue Mountains Feb 2013 - Finally, after 3 years of living in Sydney, and this being the only place I wanted to see when I got here, we went to the Blue Mountains. I had constantly used the excuse that I wanted to spend a couple of nights there and relax, instead of doing a day trip. So when I saw a
voucher on one of the group buying sites (Scoopon etc....) and found out Ryan and Emma were coming over, I figured it was a good opportunity to go!! So once Steve had finished his morning shift, we headed to Blackheath where our place was situated. It was a gorgeous little cottage thing, close to a few others at the ecolodge, but still in the bush and so so quiet. It was perfect - two bed place with a balcony overlooking the bush, and a log fire. We based ourselves from there for the next couple of nights, and explored the Blue Mountains. So so happy I fiiinally got to see them!! 😊
Batemans Bay April 2013 - We decided to day before to just go on a road trip, and we ended up heading down the south coast of nsw... We did a little bit of research for things to see, but mainly just playing by ear... We drove part of the Grand Pacific Drive, mainly to drive the Sea Cliff Bridge (which was gorgeous, but nothing compared to the Great Ocean Road), past the Kiama Blowhole, tasted a few wines at the wineries along the way
(poor Steve having to drive) and then ended up in Batemans Bay for the night. I fell in love with this little town - it was just a simple on the mouth of the river little town, but there was just something so 'quaint' about it. We then drove back up to Sydney the next day - and the whole drive only used one tank of my little Peugeot!! Sold it not too long after that trip, it was just a good car for those long road trips! (Although I will admit that was the car we took to Hunter Valley with 4 of us in the car, and I was so scared the whole way that it wouldn't make it! I bought the car in August 2011 (just after Wynter was born - I needed a way to get to her! hehe) and she did me proud!!) 😊
So they are the trips - not as many as I would have liked....But considering there were many Perth trips, plus a holiday in Bali for the wedding, it was pretty good 😊
