Six days of me me me!!!
I've had such an amazing time since I've been away and part of all that enjoyment has included all the things we love that can also be bad for us. I've eaten some wonderful foods, spicy foods and hot foods, I ate a meal of just prawns and bird's eye chillies in Thailand! I've eaten exactly what I've wanted, loved most of it and eaten so, so many carbohydrates. Often I've eaten what I've been given, remember the potatoes in Guatemala?! Of course there has been the odd tipple, tequila nights in Guatemala, a few cocktails and a little wine along the way. As for any kind of exercise regime it's really hard to do anything regular whilst your traveling. I've been active, just not gone out of my way to exercise. Anyway I've not exactly gone totally overboard, just been free to enjoy all I've wanted. The long and short of it is that all this good living means I've gained a few pounds and feel like I needed to give my body some t.l.c.
All of this led to me booking in for a six day detox
local house,
how sweet is this house if only I could bring it home. and cleanse at the vitality for life detox lounge in a small town a couple of hours south of Brisbane called Mullumbimby. This is a sweet town which takes about an hour to walk around. It has a valley park along the river which has been lovely to sit in and have some outside exercise.
I was straight into the program as soon as I arrived, on Monday with a consultation with a naturopathic consultant to discus my health and she looked at my iris's (Iridology) to determine any problem areas. Then I had my first colon hydrotherapy session. That's as far as I go with that subject but all I can say is interesting...
Tuesday I started with a personal fitness training session at the gym which was great and then I did a pilates class. Back to the detox lounge for a sauna and shower and then in the afternoon I had a deep remedial massage and then a scrub. Back to my room at the sweet motel across the road where I stayed and I was sure the biscuits by the tea facilities in the room were calling my name that night! I can assure
you I resisted.
My Wednesday began with a yoga class and this was followed with a cardioscan. This was a measure of my heart fitness and I'm pleased to say it's great! The other things they test for is your stress levels and your physical fitness both of which are also fine, so that's all good news. I found this to be the hardest day and felt a little tired and had a headache. I was told this was quite normal on day three as this is the last day your body gets rid of the last toxins and to take it easy. I had a sauna and did just that.
Thursday I woke and felt amazing!! I felt full of energy, alive and ready to go. My day started with a colonic and then I went off to the gym. I had an hour and a half pilates class and then did a session in the gym. I had a walk around Mullumbimby and then went back to the detox lounge. I had a sauna and then my second colonic of the day. Then I had another remedial massage which felt even more amazing than the first
time. I certainly slept well that night.
My Friday began with a yoga class which was pretty intense. I never knew I could get into some of those poses, but it was good and I felt much fresher after the class. I then spent an hour in the gym after my class. Another afternoon of relaxing and reading before one of those great massages, sadly my last of the week.
Saturday came before I knew it and my last day of my program. I had my last colonic of the week and was then off to the gym again. I had a personal fitness session which was really interesting as the trainer could point out things I didn't know I was doing and give me ways to counteract them. I then did a yoga class followed by a session in the gym. Apart from my juices and resting up for the rest of the day I was done!! The next few days I was told to continue with lots of water and daily juices and ease back into my diet on a gradual basis. This is to maintain what I have achieved and so that I am kind to my digestive system as it has has a rest for the last six days.
I've had six days of personal fitness training at the gym, yoga or pilates daily classes, massages, skin brushing, had a cardoiscan, been cleaned from the inside out and outside again. I have eaten nothing but fresh vegetable or fruit juice, and a vegetable broth for my dinner. I've also been given pro biotic drinks to replace all the good bacteria you need in your insides. I've never spent so much time concentrating on my physical well being in such an intense way and I feel lucky I've been able to take this opportunity to do so.
I actually questioned whether or not to write about this week as it's all a bit private and personal and I know everyone has their opinion on if you should do a detox or not. I respect other people's opinions and they are entitled. However I decided that to leave this week out would be missing a bit of my journey and it's all part of my story and after all it's my body and my choice. All I can say is I am really glad I did it. I feel fabulous and fit and healthy and that's how I want to feel when I come home so here's hoping I keep up all the good work I've put in this week!! I'm no kind of health freak and believe everything in moderation is fine, after all could I give up the vino? I think not. But my aim was to have this healthy kick start leading up to my return a refreshed me.
