Belmore Waterfall
Not far from Robertson. 10 APRIL 2002 Today was the first of three days in town. The good thing about working in the country is I'm usually close to work. The motel was within walking distance but I had to take all my equipment, so the car was used. The staff were great and ticked off names as I got the photos I needed. The session was finished around mid-day and I was back in the motel unit soon after. Finishing so soon was a bit of a surprise and I had not planned to do anything in the afternoon. A quick look in the Robertson pamphlet gave me the answer. I always find graveyards fascinating to visit (not stay). On a hill near town I found the last resting place of some of Robertsons population. The oldest gravestone I could find was 1886.
Leaving the graveyard I stopped off at a nature reserve. I was surrounded by the last remnants of a rainforest. The thickly covered walk was cool and very little sunlight shinning through the upper canopy of trees. The short walking track takes about half an hour to complete and stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding landscape that is now farmland. The high budget movie "Babe" was filmed in this area.
I drove back into town and wandered from shop to shop along the main street. Finishing up at the pub where I relaxed with a beer and just watched the people of the town come and go about their business.
This entry is penned at 2.30am, outside the stars shine down on this sleepy town and only the sound of passing goods trains shatter the silence as they travel through the station close to the motel.
11 APRIL 2002 I have been lucky with the weather all this week, which has given me a chance to get good outdoor shots. Again the afternoon was free and I found there was nothing to do so I grabbed my video camera and went for a walk up the main street, where there are a number of timber buildings worthy of filming. Of course there is always the pub where I decided to have an early meal of Fisherman's Basket. Tomorrow is my last day and I expect it to be much the same as this morning. Plus the long drive back to Melbourne. Not much on TV this evening so went to sleep early.
17 APRIL 2002 I arrived in town via a centre in Murrumbeena where thirty children kept me busy until 11.30am. It's just turned 4pm and I've made myself comfortable in a motel in Ballarat in Victoria. Outside there is the noise of a busy intersection where this Best Western motel was built. On the weekend just gone I was photographing a wedding at the Flemington Race Course which was a good experience although the weather wasn't kind.
