Rain Drops
Rain can result in some neat photos. I spent the day exploring Sydney a little more. I started off by visiting Manly Cove. It’s across the harbor from downtown Sydney. It was really fun because I took the ferry across. It was less fun because it was cloudy and overcast. It rained a little bit too, but only for a few minutes thankfully. Anyway I walked along the harbor for a bit. The ferry also provides good views of the shoreline around Sydney. The shore is sandstone ranging in colors from light tan to dark reddish brown. Layers upon layers of sandstone are exposed. Most of the shore is rocky and very steep; in many places the shore is nonexistent with the land ending in an abrupt cliff. Sydney has a few parks and national parks in it so there is some shoreline that looks much like it did when Sydney was founded in 1788 so that is pretty cool.
After my walk along the harbor I cut across Manly to the beach on the Pacific Ocean. Despite it being a bit rainy and overcast the beach was crowded with families and tourists. I enjoyed a snack on the beach and dipped my feet in for a

After lunch I walked around The Rocks. It’s basically shops and dining places. Knowing that I was not going to buy anything, especially on my second day in the country, it seemed a bit silly but I was told to go, so I did. After that I walked across the Harbor Bridge. Like most bridges it’s ugly up close. There is a lookout at the top of the bridge, but I just didn’t think it was worth $9.50 of my money. I spent a while at the park at the base of the bridge in North Sydney. I had the most unique bathroom experience I’ve ever had. It’s all space-age and sleek looking. You have to push a button to open the door and then this steel door slides open. You step in and press another button to close the door. Then this voice comes over a speaker and tells you that your time limit is 10 minutes and some classical music starts playing. I’m not really sure what

Anyway I took the ferry over to the Sydney Aquarium. I really like aquariums and ocean creatures so I was planning on going there all day but once I got there I changed my mind. From the outside it looked less than standard and nothing really inspired me to go on it. So I skipped that and headed back for some dinner. On my way “home” I stopped at an open-air type of market. It had everything a person could need. There was everything from produce to t-shirts, sunglasses, binoculars, jewelry and designer handbag rip-offs. The produce was cheap though so my dinner ended up being less than five dollars. Quite a feat in Sydney.
After dinner I went to get some night shots of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge but basically I am done with Sydney. It’s a neat town and there is lots to do but it’s kind of like any other

I’m much more at home hiking, dodging limbs and scrambling over rocks. Tomorrow I am going to leave Sydney for the Blue Mountains. There I will probably do a 3 day 2 night backpacking trip. I may also do some other hikes around there, we’ll see what transportation is like once I get there.
