We’ve decided that we should be treating each weekend like a mini holiday so we make the most of our time here in Sydney. With that in mind we were delighted to have the opportunity to see some of the New South Wales countryside with a visit to a farm in Mudgee. A colleague of mine, Christy, has recently built a gorgeous house on a huge plot of land 2 hours drive from Sydney. Her husband, Peter, is a jack of all trades and between them they have pretty much designed, built and decorated the entire thing themselves. It is made all the more impressive when you consider that it was built over mostly weekends and some short spells of time off work and during the winter months when they were living in a shed while building!

It was so much fun waking up to the baaah’s of sheep instead of the roar of fire engines and we even had a few visits from some kangaroos, who were just hopping across the field to the back of the house! The highlight of the weekend, aside from how amazingly relaxed we were and the great hospitality and yummy dinners, was our afternoon of wine and cheese tasting.

Mudgee is well known for it’s excellent wine and we were really looking forward to trying some. And guess what? We actually found quite a few that we loved and ended up coming home with a half dozen bottles. I was thinking how Becs would be proud of us! Your cellars of reds are safe from us though -SO not fans of red wine 😊 Next it was time to taste some of the local cheeses. Now you all know I like cheese on my quarter pounders and Gareth is a big fan of a toasted cheese sambo but this stuff is sort of in a different league :P We tasted some fabulous cheese and ended up buying three and some cheese crackers to go with them…..well you cant have a nice sauv blanc without some feta in pesto and olive oil to accompany it 😊

After a lovely relaxing weekend in Mudgee it was time for work again, but also time to plan the next weekend! We decided that a trip to the Blue Mountains was in order. We heard it was a really picturesque area and the two hour train journey sounded like the perfect way to start a weekend.

So at 8am the following Saturday we found ourselves at central station ready to get the journey started. Despite a slight delay because of track work (which gave us time to get some yummy fresh doughnuts for the trip) we reached the town of Katoomba around 11.30 and bought our trolley tour bus tickets. Yep they are real trolley’s like an old tram and they are really slow and noisy but much more fun than a boring old bus haha! I think the pictures speak for themselves when it comes to the Blue Mountains. The views are spectacular and the villages are so cute and full of character. It was a really nice change from the fast paced city lives we’ve been leading :p

Some of our recent weekend outings have included a day at Coogee Beach (my favourite beach in Sydney) and Palm Beach (where they film Home and Away) and also a trip to Luna park (it’s like a big Funderland but it’s permanent and sits right on the edge of the harbour- awesome views) and the Sydney Observatory - it was a bit boring but if you like telescopes it might be fun haha!

We hope you enjoy the pictures! This is actually our last weekend in Sydney, the next leg of the adventure starts next week! 😊
