So arty!
Sydney by far was my favourite city within Australia. It feels a lot more vibrant and you get a real feel of the hundreds of cultures within the city and its suburbs. We were staying about 15 minutes outside of the CBD and I was really expecting there to be a major increase in terms of prices ala London but in places such as Marrickville and Newtown you can actually get cheaper restaurant meals etc than I have seen anywhere else. We had a week to explore Sydney and to get in some much needed rest after the hikes of the Blue Mountains. Of course as expected, both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House are impressive and a tick in the "to see" box. The harbour itself was much smaller however than I had expected; though this meant that you manage to get around and see alot more in a day or so. The main areas we had a look at were places such as "The Rocks"; these were a few cobbled streets with very plush cafes, restaurants and touristy shops. I did find it quite amusing that a lot of them detailed the history of the building and then

in brackets it said (built 1880). I really forget that many countries around the world are relatively new! Another interseting place or two we found were the Queen Victoria Building and The Strand. Both fantastic buildings which have now been turned into shopping centres for the more upper class shops...a huge dose of window and drooling shopping done here.
The final two highlights of our Sydney leg had to be firstly the Olympic park; I got to venture into the media suites, the warm up rooms and run out onto the field of play. Yes there is also a fantastic picture of me celebrating winning the Olympic Gold on the rostrum! It had to be done. I just hope that the London Olympics are organised as half as well as the facilities here! Finally probably the best day I had in Sydney was at Bondi Beach. It wasn't at all like I had imagined it but a nice beach nonetheless. It was made even better by the fact that yours truly will be on "Bondi Rescue" a weekly TV programme here! Overall a really nice end to our mainland trip to Australia!
N.B. Please note that I wasn't actually in need of rescuing on Bondi Beach...merely an attractive bystander zoomed in on a number of times!!
