Mardi Gras

Jenny Nagel picked us up from our hostel and took us to her lovely little house on the north shore of the harbour. Jen wanted to see koalas close, so we went to the Blackwood Animal Sanctuary where she was able to actually touch one. My favourite creature was a Tasmanian Devil although I'd rather have seen him in the wild.
The eveing was a total contrast. Just Jen and I got the bus and train to Oxford Street to see the Mardi Gras Gay Parade. The streets were packed and there was a lovely atmosphere. The floats and people parading past had to be seen to be believed. The parade was preceeded by more than a hundred 'Dykes on Motorbikes' and was particuarly impressive. It was a great to spend our last night in Sydney in such a convivial and happy crowd. As we went home the party was just beginning.
