Edit Blog Post
Hi all, apologies for taking an age to get the blog entries back on track, it's been a hectic month to say the least!!
We started our time in Sydney hostelling it, which was the best ting we could have done, because most of our friends here are people we met in the hostel. The first 2 nights i stayed in a different hostel from the others cos of a deal i bought in STA, great move as on our first day, after getting off the plane at 6.20am after 3 days non stop travel, we kept going and walked through the city to see the opera house and harbour bridge, just to convince ourselves that we were actually here!! To see that famous sight in person is the most breathtaking thing, you don't actually feel like you're looking at them, I still feel like that now!!
Next we took a boat from circular quay to darling harbour and all missed the beatiful views as we all fell asleep on the boat, at that point we realised we needed some rest, so all went back to our hostels for a sleep. In my hostel i had a 4 bed
dorm to myself and a plasma on the wall...not bad!! the others were in a full 10 bed dorm with no tv...haha!!we arranged to meet back at their hostel at 5pm...next thing i knew it was 9am the next day!!a good 20 hours sleep or so!! I think i must have been tired!!
2 days on i moved into the wake up hostel with them, We had the best time in wake up, they always have stuff on down in side bar, the hostel pub, and they have a big tv area and kitchen which is great for meeting people. The next couple of weeks were spent getting our bearings and going to the beaches, bondi, coogee, tamarama and manly. My favourites are manly and coogee as bondi is normally busy and really windy, but lots of surfers to look at make up for it!! apart from that we checked out most of the night life sydney has to offer!! Darling Harbour is my favourite place to go out so far, but had some great nights out in Bondi too!
After having an absolute nightmare trying to find somewhere to live, i'll spare you the details, we finally
moved into a great place in Surry Hills, it's very central and a fun house!
Being away from Scotland at Christmas time, basically meant it didn't feel like Christmas at all!! The only night that did was the hostel Christmas party, it was one of the best night's we've had!!everyone in great form, lots of santa hat's and people dressed up, the best costumes had to go to the boys from Fraserburgh, the most hard core drinkers you've ever met!! they were dressed up as spiderman, ali baba, a goon soldier(see photo's) and more, they were so funny! I'll upload the pics to give you a better idea, but it was a great night!
We went on the Christmas Eve harbour booze cruise, which was brilliant as well, we met in darling harbour outside cargo bar then headed to our boat for a free meal and 4 hours unlimited free booze, (beer or wine), by the end we were all fit for our beds, but had an awesome time the views of the harbour and opera house at night were pretty amazing!
Christmas day I was feeling a bit down in the dumps not to be home,
it's my favourite day of the year and not to be at home was a bit of a bummer, but we picked ourselves up and went down to Bondi Beach to join the others away from home! I hadn't planned on it but ended up going to gatecrasher with Vic, Suzy (our mad irish friend), Jay (our ace Brummy house mate) and some of the others to dance the day and night away, it was another great party, allbeit a bit different from mum's roast dinner...mmmm!!
I told myself that being here this year was my present to myself, and that's more than enough for me!!
p.s. last night I had my first run in with a spider, I was picking up my dress and felt a pinprick in myfinger, i dropped the dress then gave it a shake, only for a spider to crawl out from it, to say i crapped myself is an understatement!!i screamed the house down!! the boys caught the spider then i went to hospital to make sure I wasn't about to die!!thankfully i am still alive to tell the tale, it was a garden orb spider and nothing deadly!! PHEW!!
will
xmas day in our house
vic and suzy got wrapped up in the moment! try and get pics up asap!!
love to you all
xx
