Edit Blog Post
Right firstly sorry for completely neglecting this blog, but the site went down and I lost all my photos etc, and if I’m honest lost interest due to this. But I’ll try to get back on top of things now, which may take a while as the last entry was Brisbane, early June.
From there we headed further south down the east coast of Australia, starting with Surfers paradise which was a top spot on the list. Lovely beach, nice little beach town far too many kebab houses not good late at night. The last night spent here we stumbled across a Blues bar which I’ve been listening to a lot more since being away, there was a band playing some chuck berry numbers, bb king, lightning Hopkins etc and then announced they had an open mic night, which sounds good after a few happy hour beers. So before I knew it they were calling my name out and I was on stage with this band (average age of about 60) singing Elvis suspicious minds much to Gary and Adams amusement.
The next day we headed for Byron bay next stop on the east coast itinerary, this place had a real
hippy feel to it though we were clearly there the wrong time of the year far to cold, for the sea etc and staying in our log cabin was tuff even sleeping in our jogger’s thermal shirts and hats. We spent a couple of days here at the arts factory which was a nice hostel with a homely feel, One of the day trips they do from the arts factory is to Nimbin the Amsterdam of Australia, Gary stayed clear of this me and Adam indulged and surrounded ourselves with smoking cafes, cannabis museums, hash cookies for sale, strange people everywhere, funny shop names (one called Bringabong instead of billabong) After a little wonder around we found our selves a little pub which was an alcohol free zone, so you can guess what they sold here, we spent a couple of hours doing what the locals do, and were joined by a chatter box lady which we stared blankly at listening to the music she was talking all over for longer than we had estimated as we nearly missed the bus home All in all a funny day.
Sorry for summarizing but it would take far too long and ill
never get on top of things adding every detail. Next stop Sydney first impressions not great. Staying in a large hostel job hunting contending with the bad weather. Things started picking up once I finally got myself a job planting trees around the city of all things, this was supposed to be temporary with an agency until they could get me some sparks work “which they had coming up” but never showed, I had now moved to Kings Cross the bad area of Sydney with a drunk on every corner drug addict on every other, a hooker in every door way strip joints every third shop, backpackers everywhere, and dodgy goings on left right and center, this became home for the next couple of months while Gary moved in with friends of the family. So I was up for work every day at 5.30 am on the tube to the yard, first stop coffee which Louie the boss treated me to every day nice bloke. The work was hard and telling on my un used muscles but at least it was outside and a bit of much needed fitness.
Whilst working for the tree company I got a job for
The hemp bar
We found out after leaving the bar is on web cam all day a local indie bar in kings cross run by some English lads just putting up posters around Sydney, bit of work in the bar, handy man jobs, painting and decorating, you name it of course all illegally. Had a few good nights out in Sydney, a friend I met up in airlee beach arrived one weekend, so we had a night out and met his Swedish mates (Johan, Jordan, George, Karl, Jonas, Fammy, and a couple of girls) which was good, when Gary went early to Melbourne they invited me round and we had a few nights out in Kings Cross. And we’ve kept in touch.
From Sydney I headed to Melbourne on the over night bus (13hours) which was home for the next two weeks. Then it was back to Sydney for the last week in Oz, this time it was hot, we visited the zoo and had a few goodbye drinks with the Swedish lads
